GermyBoy - re: KyroII, yes I had one, and loved it, in any games over a year old (or new ones, with some of the settings tweaked) it's a decent gaming card, for FPS, it's close to a GF2. The 2D is excellent. AT included it in a comparison of video GPUs here and here. ParaKnowYa has an FAQ section for this card.
My Kyro was in my #2 computer, and got pulled to replace a dead GF2 in a friends computer, but I have another Kyro on the way from a deal in the FS/T forum. Sorry for the OT, PM if you have any more questions and I won't clutter up this post any more

Thanks Bra. I need to build a new PC for my wife. She complains of not being able to do our Quicken stuff when our son and his friends are playing games.

It took my order even after the posts above that said Out Of Stock. I wonder if that means they still have some. They wouldn't accept my order if they didn't have any in stock, would they? When I track the order online, it shows me "Processing". I guess I'll find out in the next half hour...

Does anybody know if this will accept the t-bird slot A cpus, or does it only handle the classic slot A's?

Hooray! I picked up one for my need for $24.90 shipped. Only 31 left now, so hurry. Now I can finally get rid of my bug-ridden MSI board.

Processors are so cheap that isn't a concern

If anyone needs a good heat sink for their oem slot a they just bought b/c of this board:

Directron Slot A Heat Sinks

I personally bought the cooler master for $6.99... seemed like a deal to me

Just FYI, since I was the first to catch this deal and order one:

My order status, as of 10:00AM (PST) is "Sent to Warehouse" - - the same status it was about 30 mins after I placed the order yesterday. I'll let you know when my status says "Shipped" (hopefully today) -- That will inevitably mean that they really do have these in stock and I'm getting one.

Then everyone else shouldn't be too far behind

Also -YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE MANUAL FROM THIS LINK --- select the second document to get the whole kitten kabuttle --- it should answer everyone's questions about this board's capabilities.

Drivers for the board are here.

2:00PM UPDATE --- Still "Sent to Warehouse" status

These motherboards appear to only support PC100 memory, not PC133 speeds. Also, I can't find any BIOS downloads for it on ECS site.

Viterix777: 850Mhz I think.

Since this is a Slot A board I would think your processor must be Slot A and therefore would need a Slot A heat-sink Did that help?

btw - I got the 700Mhz from Package2you.com for $26.50+Shippin+Sales Tax (I live in Texas)

Great timing, my Soyo board just fried and I was getting ready to buy a whole new mb/cpu comdo until this came along. For $25 I'll keep my Athlon 950 in service for a while though. Thanks Brasscat!

Oh, and by the way, there's no such thing as a kitten kabuttle, LOL. However, if you select the second link you could probably download the WHOLE KIT AND CABOODLE!

caboodle
\Ca*boo"dle\, n. The whole collection; the entire quantity or number; -- usually in the phrase the whole caboodle. [Slang, U.S.] --Bartlett.

Cruzer-

Where are you getting that information from? When I downloaded the mobo instruction manual it says this about the DIMMS:

"The memory chips must be standard or registered SDRAM. The memory bus can run at 66Mhz or 100Mhz/133Mhz"

Doesn't that sound like it can take PC-133? What do most K7 AMD's run at? 100Mhz?

Don't slot A processors that are OEM already have the HS&Fan already attached?

OEM means nothing but the chip... Retail box means cpu & hsf.

The whole purpose of OEM is to only get the hardware and mod everything else exactly how you like it to get the best quality for the best price

Most sites don't give that much info but I know this link specifies (for this price range) no hsf... I doubt the others would offer even better prices to include hsf.

Compgeeks.com

I just canceled my pack2you order and got this one instead Edgemicro.com for $30.60 shipped. Free shipping! I called them on this one and it is OEM no hsf.

I don't want to buy one if I don't need too.

When in doubt call the ppl who you bought the cpu from and ask them for crying out loud It never hurts to spend 30mins on hold and ask

In my experience building 100+ systems OEM CPU means only chip no hsf!

Is the SlotA form factor the same size as a Slot1 form factor? I see a cheap one for $3.99 on the package4you site.

No, Slot A and Slot 1 look the same, but they are definitely not the same.

Also, please note that this motherboard has the headers for the built-in audio, but the actual bracket is listed optional...

From looking at the manual and checking again the buy.com product description, standard audio is built-into (and comes with) the board. The modem needs the bracket, and the digital inputs (for CD-ROMs, for example) are on the board. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I see.

Cheers!

My order status also shows "Sent to Warehouse" now.

So, help out someone who has been out of PC building world for 6 months...

Do we need PC100/PC133 SDRAM for this? Or PC2100 DDR RAM? The manual lists PC100 SDRAM. But the mobo is capable of running a 100 MHz main bus, and with the Athlon's double pumping, a 200 MHz data rate can be achieved. It is still 100 million cycles per second but two fetches can be done per cycle. Am I correct so far?

So why do we put PC2100 DDR RAM in Athlon XPs if the main bus speed is still 100/200 MHz? Is PC2100 RAM 20 times faster than PC100?

EDIT: Found the answer at pcstats.com!

Currently the standards available for DDRAM are PC1600 and PC2100. This new labeling refers to the total bandwidth of the memory, as opposed to the old standard which listed the speed rating (in MHz) of the SDRAM memory, in this case, the PC66, PC100, and the PC133.

Another telltale difference between SDRAM and DDRAM is the amount of pins used. SDRAM consists of only 168 pins, whereas DDRAM has 184 pins. The two types of memory are not interchangeable, and the change in pin numbers ensures memory is not inserted in boards which do not support it.

The ECS K7ASA takes 168-pin SDRAM.

Yes, it appears this deal is dead. The link takes you to "this product is no longer sold at buy.com"...

It's also been over 24 hours now and my order status remains "sent to warehouse" at buy.com.

I wonder how long it usually takes to get an order fufilled and out the door?
