Buy.com has retail Celeron 566 in stock for $100.95. And there is a new $20 off $100 coupon floating around.

I believe that Intel never made PPGA version at 566Mhz. So I am pretty sure it's FC-PGA.

Edit: Part number BX80526F566128 is for FC-PGA. You can get 850Mhz - 950Mhz for $81.

I'm pretty sure the original celerons don't go up to 566, but just making sure, is it a celermine?

I used $50 coupon also as I do not really need yet another processor even if they cancel it.

$81 is a good deal. $51 is an excellent deal.

There are two $50 off $5-- coupons, but only one of them works.

<< Now, which motherboard would you recommend for this? >>

I picked up an Asus P3V4X (slot 1) board this past week. It has been real sweet so far compared to my older AOpen AX6BC. The Asus detects my drives upon boot up quickly. It's an awesome board. I purchased it because I read a lot of good things about it in the motherboard section of this forum. It ran me about $119 from a local vendor. On-line, you can locate them for $110 or so, plus shipping. You would need a slocket to run this CPU with this motherboard. They only run $11 to $15 though.

Well the 50-off-50 didn't work for me, but I picked one up for $86.22 shipped. Not too shabby, I must say.

If you already have a BX board its perfect for the celeron 2 because its still at 66mhz bus speed. Most likely you will hit 100 bus speed but not too much farther than that. Plus BX boards are has better memory management than VIA. If you are getting a new board the asus board will be good to get especially because of agp 4x and the 133 bus speed if you decide to upgrade to p3 chips.

Go with 440BX board. I have tried a couple of VIA133/133A but gone back to BX. Especially for Celeron, BX is much better choice.

Any idea if this chip will work with the Shopss.com computer. I got the Aopen AX6BC EZ Motherboard. I am reading the manual and can't figure out if this board can handle a Celeron II.

Thanks for any assistance.

I'm pretty new to overclocking so can anyone tell me if this will work on my system. I currently have a SCSI card that doesn't like anything more than a 66mhz bus speed. Running at 75mhz causes all sorts of problems. Now if I get the 566 FC-PGA and overclock it to 100mhz will I be ok.

chanfo:

Yes, if you can get to 100 (very likely unless Buy.com presorts - let's hope not) you'll be fine in most cases. Just set the AGP to 2/3 BUS.

[edit]Sometimes I really do lose it, but thanks to Capster, some new oc'er still has his sound card in working order! Time for bed![/edit]

I went ahead and ordered one of these, but are you guys sure its the Celeron II FC-PGA? Intel DID make a PPGA Celeron 566, and I checked at www.accessmicro.com, and they list the PPGA Celeron 566 as part #BX80526F566128 right here: http://www.accessmicro.com/productinfo.php3?ProductId=I3927N40, the same as the buy.com Celeron 566. I guess even if it does turn out to be PPGA, you can always return it, so not a huge deal. Anyhoo, lets hope it is indeed the Flip Chip.

I am pretty sure it's a fc-pga,

1. intel doesn't make ppga 566...(at least to my knowledge)

2. the serial number is 526F...i know ppga celeron has serial number of 524P...

I actually got one of the same retail boxed CII 566 chips when I was in Japan last time.

It got, on the box, the pro. code of BX80526F566128SL3W7, which is the same as what Buy.com got. And it is running at 875Mhz on Abit BX6 (Abit's first 440BX motherboard) in my girl friend's computer.

Don't worry and order it, and you will get the cheapest 850+Mhz.

Also, even if your old BX board does not support 8.5X muliplier, it still works. My BX6 only supports upto 8X, but because of the multiplier lock, it automatically gives 8.5X.

Your BIOS might display a CPU speed which is slightly off, but you can see the right speed in Windows.

No, the last PPGA Celeron was 533MHz. Since a retail 566 PPGA Celeron processor does not exist, then it's an accessmicro misprint(tm).

I guess I'm going to try and answer my own question. Please correct me if I'm wrong. By running the bus at 100mhz the PCI bus is running at 1/3 speed which makes it 33mhz. At a regular 66mhz bus speed the PCI bus is at 1/2 speed which also makes it 33mhz. If this is true then I should have no problem running my problematic PCI SCSI card at 100mhz right ?

Can anyone recommend a slotket to go with this CPU. Will any brand do? My motherboard is an Abit BX6 rev.2
