Buy.com has retail Celeron II 566 FC-PGA for $80.95 (or $50.95 if you are lucky) - Deal has long been over

Ok. Here is the update on my situation:

Intel VC820 mobo with 128 MB RDRAM 800
Intel Celeron 566 FC-PGGA
MSI 6905 MASTER

After much tinkering I got it running at about 850mhz. I need to do some more testing to see how it holds up.

By setting jumpers 1 and 4 on the MSI I was telling the mobo that this processor was a 100FSB.

The mobo arrived with the p10 BIOS which has problems recognizing the secondary IDE channel. It also saw the processor as a Celeron 850.

I changed the BIOS back to the p08 version. The IDE problem went away and the BIOS now reports the processor as a Celeron 866.

I started at the default voltage of 1.50. I was unable to even install Win98SE. I upped the voltage to 1.55. Win98SE now installed. Things looked okay until I tried to install something from the floppy drive - kaboom! So I tried 1.60 and things seemed to be much better. I was able to install various programs, surf the web. I did not install anything other than a old video card (Tseng 5500) and a NetGear FA310TX for the web surfing.

I shall do further testing tomorrow (time permitting).

Thanks go to Intel for giving me the RDRAM 800 instead of the RDRAM 700!

I got the rdram 700 so I sold the mobo & rdram. I saw someone selling 15 on them on fleabay, guess he rmaed em all (who knows). I have the msi 6905 slotket, how did you find the overclock settings . are their voltage settings on there or does the sloket let you change the multiplier & fsb too?

Got mine today - put it in BH6 1.0 with the latest BIOS, use the fan came with box, set the voltage to 1.6 - running at 850 right now, seems to be pretty stable. BTW, the sloket that I used is IWILL from Fry's)

Ordered the Celeron II 566 last Sunday from buy.com and it arrived yesterday (Thursday). Running on a BH6 Version 1.01 with the QN bios. Using an Iwill slotket. Running 850 mhz right out of the Box at 1.65V. Very good deal for $85.

Got mine today. Running at 850 at 1.58 volts on a Soyo SY6BA+IV with an MSI 6905 1.1 Slocket. Woo-Hoo! (BTW mine is a week 18)

My chip still shows up as backordered on the order tracking page, but I received an email today that said it shipped and included the following:

Hey guys. I have been outta town or I would have posted a follow up sooner.

Mine arrived on Tuesday after having been ordered on Saturday morning. I am fortunate that I apparently live near one of their distribution centers (Atlanta area, I am guessing), as I had it shipped ground.

The chip ran 850mhz out-of-the-box at 1.6v, w/MSI 6905 (Master) Sloket on an MSI 6163pro (ver2) m'board.

I've just now played an hour of SOF online with no problems whatsoever--this chip is actually running cooler than my other 566@850. I am using a Thermaltake (Golden Orb) cooler, btw.

got my C566 from Buy today it was not stable at 850M. Seems stable at 808MHz. anybody can check for me if the setting is right?

MotherBoard: MSI 6163PRO: SW2 open SW3 short
BIOS CPU P&P: 100MHz
Vcore: 1.65V
MSI-6905 v1.1: J1 Open, J4 short 2-3
Vcore set to 1.65V
J3 short 1-2 (Coppermine 256K, should I short this?)

Any idea how can I O/C it to 851 stable?

BTW,

I upped the Vcore to 1.75V and it seems to be stable @ 850 now.
Is 1.75V too high?

My PC Alert III shows that Vcore = 1.71V and CPU temp. = 39c (102F)

Hey. 1.75v isn't too high. My 6163pro is set to defaults, btw, and my 6905 is also (everything on auto, J1 set 1-2 (not 2-3, as yours is). The way mine is set allows me to control everything with the Soft CPU setup in the BIOS.
