Neat, first time I've seen a deal like this. But software and get a service for free. Of course once they get you for 3 months they will have you hooked, because it's SO much better than a dialup so they know it's a good investment. =)

This is potentially very cool. You can download a ton of mp3s with 3 months of dsl. Then quit, or pay the absolute rip off fee of $50/month to continue, or go back to 56k and listen to your new mp3 collection in the background

Real.com seems to be pretty low on the actual terms however and I don't fancy shelling out my $30 for a program I could download for free until I have this info. If you do this, please post the terms.

Does Telocity let you keep the gateway if you cancel after 3 months are up?

Telocity will very probably charge a 25$ to 30$ "shipping and handling" fee for the modem.

I have signed up (different program) a while ago and received the modem after they installed a dedicated line for the DSL.

For a week now I try to get online and it doesnt work, the modem will not be initialized by their host!
Their tech support is a joke, I had to wait up to 57 minutes (at least 30 minutes) to speak to a total idiot, who didn't even know the modem they sent me.

So if you feel the urge to get realplayer with its disturbing privacy policies (and people talk about spyware of unpaid services like free ISP's), this is s.th. for you.

But even if you throw realplayer away, for 10$ a month it is a very good deal.

Once they get it ruinning that is.

Little words about this promotion on both websites of real.com and telocity.com.
Even after my download, nothing show up to tell me about the offer from telocity,
does it mean that I should contact directly with telocity? And will I be qualified
for the 50$ Amazon GC? I will do a research, tell you guys results later.

Here are my results.

First telocity does have this promotion with real.com. But I doubt if you could get the 3 free months
service without purchasing the software, since the homepage of telocity has the advertisment there. And
after downloading the software, real.com even didn't give me any promotion code, just a link to the
telocity's homepage. It sucks. And actually it is not free, you will have to pay 49$ activation fee and
25$ around for the modem shipping. Put it together, this is not a very hot deal. For you guys who really
want DSL just like me, I suggest you to call telocity directly without buying the software, maybe you could
still get the 3 free months service.

Telocity stinks!!!! Their mail has been $ucked up for three weeks now! They absolutely stink, especially their CS.

I'm currently subscribed to telocity. I sign up in september 2000 and have it installed on october. I want to ask telocity users in this forum, have any of you called customer service and get a $50 amazon gc or the real player 3 month free service. I just called cs and they say you get whatever promotion they have running their that time, which is a crappy 100 minute phone card. :|

I'm with you on the crappy email service, crimsonking...and they say that the servers will be down on the 15th for upgrades. hmmm...why didn't they just go ahead and take them down when we couldn't get in over the past couple of weeks anyway? and don't get me started on their dns issues....argh.
