Buy Win 8 system builder vs. 8.1 retail

I am looking at building a new PC in the future but not for a few months. I don't want an upgrade version. Amazon has Win 8 System builder (with personal use license) for 129.00. Microsoft will be selling the retail copy 8.1 for 199.00

Is there anything better about the 8.1 retail version considering the 8.0 system builder can be updated to 8.1 for free and has the personal use license which is similar to retail version?

Do you think the 8.1 version will go as low as $129.00 or will it stay at 199.00?

Since the retail versions were just announced we don't know a lot about them. But given just how permissive the Personal Use License is there's no way the retail versions are going to be any better. System Builder is good for OEM systems, self built systems, virtual machines, and can be moved freely from one machine to another. There isn't a scenario I can think of where it's not suitable.

Consequently paying more for retail doesn't make any sense for a fresh install. The only thing the retail version can do that system builder cannot is do an upgrade install.

I have a Windows 7 Pro license System builders edition that I bought recently and it's perfect! I can use it to do as many clean installs on the same system as I want. I didn't notice one drawback to it only a less fancy package you don't get the full big box but I still got a genuine Installation DVD so go for it! you can save money that way and still be genuine

It doesn't. System Builder and OEM licensing for Windows 7 plays by different rules than Windows 8.
