I don't understand why people still use Ebay and Paypal.Too many people get fucked by shady buyers and Paypal, and IMO, the "convenience" just isn't worth it.

I've used ebay since.. 1996? and paypal when it first started. Never been burned yet. It's always possible, but the convenience far outweighs the slight chance of getting burned, especially if you keep your transaction amounts low.

I do a lot of forum buying, i used to not mind the fees of paypal because i figured they offered protection for both but after this case i'm not exactly happy.

I didn't get a email to say he is disputing it, they just say gimme back the money. No reason, no real option to dispute. I'm happy it wasn't on a higher $$ item like when i sold my rims and etc.

Did you even try to file a dispute? Click My Account > Resolution Center > Dispute Transaction

Before you write off Paypal, at least make an attempt to go through their process.

i talked to them on this. It wasn't a confirmed address. It was a credit card stop and reverse. from what it seems like, paypal didn't want to take the hit and investage so right off the bat they took money. I opened up a dispute, they are trying to contact dude. I sent him some PM's and emails.

It wasn't much PM exchanged. I listed item, he messages me " i'll take it, whats your paypal", i emailed him back with the paypal info and i sent the part. Guy had like 20 post counts but he made the account 3 years back.

Hopefully the dispute will work in my favor but i'm doubtful. I'll still use paypal to buy stuff, pending this situation i might not use paypal as a option. i've heard of personal google check out accounts.

Money Order from USPS [have cash in hand and then ship the item]
Deal locally for big ticket items - accept only cash and bring a money marker with you

I think if you follow paypal's rules for what's eligible for protection, then you should be protected. In this case it sounds like you weren't?

I still use Paypal when I'm the buyer. I don't sell online anymore. I use Craigslist exclusively for selling.
