I sold a guy a car part off another forum. He paypal me. Shipped it on the 5/31 with USPS I had confirmation. Shows it was there today 6/2 at noon. I just got a email today 6/2 @ 8PM saying paypal reversed a fee and now i'm in the negative.

The guy made no attempt to contact me what so ever. I emailed/PMed him on our forum but am i just screwed now? There no dispute for me as a seller apparently. I'll call paypal in the morning but i just wanted to know what normally happens in this.

I think i got scammed, he got his item and his money as of right now.

What normally happens ... is you get screwed. This is why paypal should burn in hell.

Did he pay using the personal option so no fees were taken? If so if paypal catches that they will take the fees.

I'd sit back and have a drink. You just lost whatever amount, might as well be drunk AND pissed. Even if you just leave your acct negative, PP will come at you with collections.

no there were fees so i assume it did a normal payment options with credit card.

$50 dollar but its more then enough to get me pissed.

seriously how come there is no protection for the seller. I never had issues but i guess you do enough transactions you will get burned. Is there a better option ?

If you escalate a case, that's the only way to get your money back. And the odds are against you. I hope your proof of delivery wasn't the standard free delivery confirmation from USPS. You need a real signature confirmation to win your case.

Usually you get screwed in this case. You should have been given a chance to dispute back with your delivery confirmation, but you probably would have lost anyway. Paypal almost always sides with the buyer.

sounds like a CC dispute if they didn't even email him about it first, but I'm only assuming. if that's the case, I don't think he can even fight it with the tracking number. ebay and paypal can go fuck off and die

I don't understand why people still use Ebay and Paypal.Too many people get fucked by shady buyers and Paypal, and IMO, the "convenience" just isn't worth it.

I dunno, it's pretty damned convenient. There needs to be more competition in the private pay market. I'm hoping bitcoins take off, but I'm not holding my breath.

Not in my experience - I bought a set of taillights that were broken (would fail state inspection) - Paypal said since I received *something*, it didn't matter. I lost the claim as a buyer.

Technically, the OP wouldn't be out any money if he just stopped using PayPal. At least when he says "negative" I assume that means he had no money in the account.
Does PayPal send people to collections?

I think a lot of folks here are just talking out their arse. With an eBay sale, at least, you most definately can file a dispute with Paypal and as long as you have delivery confirmation, you should win the dispute and get the money back. I'm not sure if the seller protection is the same for sales outside eBay though.

I sold a bunch of jackets on eBay for $300. The buyer got them and gave me positive feedback. A few weeks later, I got a dispute saying that they never received the items. Paypal gave me the chance to challenge the dispute and I gave them the UPS delivery confirmation. The buyer claimed that I sent them an empty box, to which I responded with the weight on the delivery confirmation. The buyer claimed that I stuffed the box with newspapers to account for the weight.

I lost. I haven't used eBay since.

I got screwed by Paypal for $300 a few years back. I haven't used it since. The only reason they stay in business is because they're your only option for eBay.

That's odd. Did you point out the positive eBay feedback to Paypal? That should have been cut and dry.

If you have the cash in your checking acct already, nothing happens. The collections part is bullshit, since you don't give out your SSN when you create an account. There's no promisory note and not adverse credit impact on your; the account just remains in negative balance unless you appeal thru the claims (useless).

Unless you're talking about the paypal credit card, it's an empty threat from paypal. Without SSN, collections can't validate that debt anyway.

I did the dispute online. I emailed paypal. I called paypal. It didn't matter. What they told me was that the buyer's story was possible. He claimed that he left feedback by accident before actually getting anything. He claimed the box was full of newspapers. The buyer's story technically was possible, even with the evidence. As such, they told me they had to side with him.

for all you non-paypal users, what do you guys use now?

I do a lot of forum buying, i used to not mind the fees of paypal because i figured they offered protection for both but after this case i'm not exactly happy.

I didn't get a email to say he is disputing it, they just say gimme back the money. No reason, no real option to dispute. I'm happy it wasn't on a higher $$ item like when i sold my rims and etc.
