Buying a new console at launch, but no games, anyone else?

So I've made the executive decision that even though I've got a PS4 coming at launch, I'm not going to buy any games for it. I have Plus, so I'll get Resogun and the Plus version of Driveclub, plus the F2P stuff that's coming day one, so I figure I'm going to wait until reviews drop for the rest of the launch games and then make my decisions based on that. Initially, I had planned to pick up Watchdogs and Killzone alongside the PS4, but eh, I'm just going to sit it out and see what the consensus is on the gamut of launch titles.

Anyone else picking up a system but no games with it right away? Seems like an easier said than done kind of thing on the PS4 since there will be around half a dozen free games out of the gate between Plus goodies and F2P stuff, but I think XBO is getting Killer Instinct and World of Tanks (?), so maybe not completely unwarranted.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I have the PS4 preordered but haven't picked a game yet. I might get Kill Zone Shadow Fall since most of my friends will have it.. With that and the PS+ games I will be busy for a little.

I'm really interested in Watch Dogs, but worried its more linear than they are saying so I'm going to wait for reviews. Everything else I want comes out next year.

Did you even watch the videos on Watch Dogs? Nothing was linear about the gameplay they showed. You had total freedom.

Also for Killer Instinct, it's only free to play as Jago. One character.

I preordered both consoles. I plan on getting PS+ and doing the same thing. As for Xbone, we'll see. I may buy Forza, but nothing at launch. Maybe something a few weeks later.

Call me weird, but I'm actually mostly interested in the Xbone for all the stuff it got criticized for. I want to talk to it and make gestures to watch TV, listen to music, etc. Games will be cool, too.

I still haven't decided on what PS4 games I want to get yet. Most likely Knack and AC4. There will be lots of indie games up for download though.

Pre-ordered both consoles, have almost zero interest in any games. My reasoning, unless there's likely to be a price drop in the first year, I might as well get the system at launch. I am interested in seeing when Microsoft will open up app development on the Xbox One as I would LOVE to have Plex or XBMC on there. That would be worth the $500 right there. As for the PS4, I have PS+, and I have no doubt that sooner or later Knack will be a free game, so I really don't want to pay $60 for it now.

I still have a huge backlog of PS3/360 games including playing through the Uncharted series again, The Last of Us, Mass Effect Trilogy, GTA IV, and GTA V.

I've decided what I'm getting for sure and what I might get pending some info and maybe a couple reviews.

For sure I'm getting Killzone, NBA 2k14 on PS4. and on XB1 Forza 5, Dead Rising 3, and Killer Instinct. Unless the reviews are absolutely terrible for DR3 anyway. If Knack gets good reviews I'll grab that too as I loved Ratchet and Clank and all those types of games. This seems somewhat in the same vein. If Drive Club is good in the free version I may also grab that later on, but I imagine I will be very busy with Forza 5. I am also waiting for some info on Madden on these systems. It may be the first time in about 10 years I actually buy a Madden game, but it's gotta be solid quality.

If I didn't have a PC of course I'd also be getting BF4, & Watch Dogs. I might grab AC4 sometime early next year. Gonna be very busy with all these games.

I have the Watch Dogs bundle preordered because standalone launch bundles were unavailable when I decided to pull the trigger. Not really that excited about yet another open-world GTA/Crackdown/Infamous type game, but it seems interesting enough to warrant eventually playing when I feel like it.

Really only excited about the PS4 for FFXV, but I doubt it'll be out before Christmas. Was a little worried about being able to get the hardware even a few months out, only reason I preordered at all.

I have a feeling we won't see hardware bugs the same as before. This is using off the shelf tried and tested parts from the PC world now.

Both systems are also specifically designed to avoid the RROD/YLOD issues that the last generation suffered from.

Between the more mainstream hardware profiles and the better engineering, i'm expecting any real issues to be on the software side as well. We'll see a lot of system updates in the first few months, but thats kind of a given.

Yeah, they both use a new os with a new graphics code to work with. Gonna definitely have software updates, especially as features like external storage and such come down the pipe (specifically xb1 there).

I'm the exacy opposite. I am buying a bunch of games at launch but not the system. That way I can sit there and look at the cases and just imagine how great they are.

From a hardware design point, I don't see any problems surfacing. Sure, they will eventually shrink the die and such, but that is only for profitability. There were talks about MS upping the RAM, but they said it was too far along in production for that to happen at launch.

I can see both MS and Sony trying to maximize the efficiency of their OS though. Right now the Xbox One is using 3gb and the PS4 is rumored between 1.5GB and 2.5GB, and that can be trimmed down.


I am not sure exactly what games I'll be getting. Forza 5 for sure, and probably COD. I might upgrade my Madden.
