I gave my old d/w to the neighbor who was getting ready to sell his house. He wanted it for parts to fix his up before he sold the house...the people who bought the house bought a new d/w and had the old one hauled away, even though the seller BRAGGED about all the "new" parts he had put into the old one...:roll:

useless anecdotal advice. people don't buy such things often enough to have a good idea of what is really out there.

consumer reports website...or go to the library and flip through a back issue. they do tests.

Though I probably could install it, it would be a PITA for me and G-d help me if something goes wrong with my installation - I need to be able to blame someone other than me.

I do a good number of things around the house, but I know my limitations. (In fact, I just painted our new fence over the weekend. I would have been done faster, but my family decided to "help".)

I would not notice the sound of a Harley in our kitchen with our current machine. If you are too close, it makes you jump when it switches cycles.

Would I notice that much of a difference between a unit rated at "52dBA" vs. "47db"?

(I think we have narrowed it down to the Kenmore Elite 1313 vs. the Kenmore Elite 1315)

Actually just bought my wife a Kenmore from the scratch and dent section for 229 and couldnt be happier with it. Their are 6 of us here and it work wonderfully so far. It only took about 1.5 hours to install.

I'm not sure, but I know I could install ours right next to our bed and it would never wake me up. 47db is pretty damn quiet. It was worth the $$$
