Could anyone cast his or her opinions on which is the fastest IDE drive to buy, with still capacity in mind. 60 GB would be the minimum, as I am using about 30 GB now. What would people suggest for me to get, I have had four Maxtors, and they have all been great, is the Maxtor Diamond Max plus 60 the best one to get?

Regards,

That would be a good choice. I have one and it's fast and virtually silent.

yes, if you don't want to worry about problems with IBM's 60GXP drives (which are faster in access times), go with the Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 60 drives.

Personally i can only recommend a MAXTOR since those are the only drives ive used in a while. Yet ive read lots of reviews on the WESTERN DIGITAL (Ibelieve they have a 100BB out) whcih is 100gb. Those are suppose to good as well.

AMB what about that Maxtor you exchanged that died on you few months back ,anyway I would wait I think Maxtor are due for a new model soon if you want Maxtor, but for fastest speed then IBM 60GXP is the choice.

Go for the IBM 60GXP. Its faster and cheaper than the Maxtor. Its slightly less reliable than the maxtor (generally). It comes with a 3 year guarantee, so your likely to upgrade again not long after that anyway.

I've had nothing but good luck with IBM's dating back to my 2.1 gig Deskstar. I've had several 75GXP's and now a 60GXP. Never a single problem. I have seen too many reports of bad 75GXP's to say it's not true, so I'd be leery of them. I saw a review of a new Seagate Barracuda IV IDE drive that was pretty impressive. Faster than IBM, Maxtor, WD or any other IDE drive by a good margin. The last Seagate I had (a 2 gig), was a real POS. That was a long time ago. Not sure how the reliability is on the new stuff.

Thought from the benchmarks from StorageReview.com in "real-world" benchmarks, the Maxtor was better than the IBM?
