Def put up some nice pics. Any specific color you're looking at? I was looking at Camaros before I got my car.

I am torn between Cyber Gray Metallic (basically gun-metal gray) and Silver Ice Metallic (obviously silver).

I like both, but definitely like the darker gray better. BUT, and this is a big but, I am afraid of keeping the gray clean and how bad it will show scratches. I have two black cars currently and hate it with a passion. Scratches show up so easily and the black seems hazy the day after it is washed.

I assume the gray is easier than black, but still....

My tough decisions:

-Gray or Silver?
-Auto or Manual?

ARGHHH!!

Automatic. Just as fun as manual without the hassle. Don't let the manual tards fool you, they just have a sense of unwarranted self-importance because they drive manual and think they are better than everyone else.

Or perhaps it is a genuinely more engaging driving experience.

Makes for a much more enjoyable experience with the car.. I don't know what the big deal is.. clutch/shift is just part of loving to drive.

Thanks for the reply.

I actually drive in Atlanta traffic for my commute 5 days a week.

In the morning I usually leave early enough to beat the traffic so I get to go anywhere from 55-75 mph with some slowdown in places. In the afternoon it is usually stop-and-go most 20-25 out of the 30 miles.

I've got a reverse commute on I-85 so it's no problem. 20 miles of stop and go is going to make it rough. Unfortunately, I would advise against the manual...I think...although it is so much more fun to drive.

it's night and day, but I would only go manual if I've got some power. Which a camaro has.

Epic Fail on this comment. We aren't talking about the smugness of hybrid owners here. There are logic and fun reasons to drive a stick...but automatics have their place. My daily driver is a 2007 Buick Lacrosse (auto)...I also have a 91 Camaro, 350 and stick...which is a fun car.

For driving experience, better mileage, etc. a stick fits the bill.

However, since I commuted for a number of years in stop and go traffic, a stick got old with that. It depends on your driving style and desire.

The other reason to go with a stick is if the car you drive has a small engine...it will be much more fun with a stick. The drivetrain losses with a 4 cyl and an auto are more noticable. I have had the opportunity to drive some slightly older Focuses and Cavaliers which were the same model year, same engine...and one had an auto, while the other had a manual. Hands down, the stick car was more fun to drive, was rated for better mileage and was faster 0-60.

Perhaps that's your personal opinion, I personally find manuals to be too much extra work.

Again, that's YOUR opinion, if you are going to be driving in any kind of traffic, manual is NO fun.

Automatic transmissions have gotten just as good as manual transmissions for most cars in the past few years, with equal and in some cases better fuel economy when compared to a manual.

Driving experience is another BS claim, it's your opinion. Sure, some people find driving a stick more "fun" while others will claim it's just a chore.

Are you a sad panda because you can't drive one?

It is, but you make it sound like I'm trying to be cool by driving an MT or something.
There are many benefits other than e-peen for preferring manual. That is all my point is.

For the record, I do drive in a fairly busy city with MT. Does not bother me at all.

Meh, buy what you want. I've dealt with LA traffic daily for 10 years. I'll still choose a stick.

What's really all that different? Either way you're just manipulating pedals constantly.

Get a stick, I've had both in a 4th gen fbody and the stick was far superior. I didn't know how to drive one either but you learn quick after you buy one. Takes a few weeks of driving to get comfortable with one.

No, it's true, we really are better than everyone else. It's a burden really.

If manuals were "just as fun", no one would ever build a tip-tronic/quasi-manual shift automatic, or invest millions in DSG (direct shift gearbox) R&D in order to have the advantages of a stick (driver experience) and auto (no clutch)

Just about every automatic sportscar on the market has a "manual mode" with stick/button/paddle shifters. That right there should tell anyone in the market for a sportscar everything they need to know about choosing auto or stick.

A sportscar with an auto is diminished and offers less of a driving experience to the owner.

Yep, it may be a chore for you, but we'll continue to make recommendations based on our opinions.

Was that your big point? That driving is a subjective experience? :hmm:

You shift automatically, it just happens on its own anyway. The difference is that with a stick shift it's your brain automatically shifting, not a computer with less balls than your cell phone that has no idea what you plan on doing.

I'm using a rental car right now, which means I took every single corner in 4th gear until I decided I'll never use the automatic mode and only use the awful select-a-gear thingy that these horrible automatics have. CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP "Oh cool, I took that corner in 4th. I hope this car dies in a fire."

I drive in the mountains about as often as in stop-n-go highway traffic. Neither myself nor my wife have ever owned an automatic and one of the biggest reasons is control.

A 5 or 6 speed really wakes the driver up. You're actually feel like you're driving, not just being hauled.

Don't worry about uphill starts with a big v8. Manual v8s are incredibly easy to learn to drive and very forgiving. You don't even have to work the gas to get started uphill, especially in the 350 with a close ratio 6 speed. It may take you a while to learn how to launch fast (as opposed to burning the tires to the rims in 1st and 2nd gear) so you'll need to be careful making left turns in front of traffic until driving the car becomes second nature. Powershifting habits from driving high strung 4-bangers are a big problem for keeping things under control, but luckily you don't have that.

Also, there's more to fun cars than horsepower. Sure, the v6s make as much total power once the tach is about to unscrew itself from the dash. But they don't produce 300 odd ft-lb off idle like the bigger v8s.

I've driven those as well. They are a completely useless gimmick.

I am actually getting the V6. Will not be quite as forgiving (3.6L 304HP vs 6.2L 426HP). I am actually probably most nervous about tight parking. Seems like you would have to burn the clutch a lot to control speed. Also, same with reverse. You obviously don't want to stall, so you need the clutch I assume to control the speed.

I can start driving on a level surface with no throttle application - 2l or 2.5l turbo (which isn't spooled at idle anyway). You'll be fine.
