if you have a burlington coat factory outlet, you can find suits for $40-$100

i got a nice one, odd size for $40, normally $200

it is hit/miss as they are left over from their normal stores or something

Go to Men's Wharehouse. They're having a deal right now where if you buy 2 suits George Zimmer lets you personally fondle his luxurious beard.

I hear walmart sells some nice ones. Might be a bit pricy though, but you get what you pay for...

Wow, if you think Men's Wearhouse is expensive don't even go shopping for a REAL suit. You'd faint.

Mens Wearhouse sells crap. The quality they sell is atrocious. And if you think their clothes are epensive you must be a regualr at the local Wal-Mart's.

Nordstroms Rack - Look for Red Tag specials and expect to pay around $300. While that may seem expensive, at least it will be a suit that last a few years. Also, try Marshalla and Ross. You can find suits for under $200 there often. Half the suit is in the tailoring so ensure you go to someone good.

Men's Wearhouse is pretty good over all. Not too expensive, decent quality, helpful staff

So, you're saying that a $200-300 suit, as long as it is purchased at a store like Nordstrom's, moves you up from Wal-Mart to Target?

They are expensive if you compare them to places like JC Penny. If you wear a suit everuday, then no, they are pretty cheap. If you wear a suit 5 times a year, then they are pretty expensive.

There are crappy suits in all price ranges. The WSJ had a nice article a few weeks ago where they compared suits from many different vendors. Some of the high end suits ($2k) were bested by suits costing much less ($400). Are you looking for something that will hold up with a lot of travel? Something to wear only occasionally? An everyday kind of suit? Personally I'd suggest going to a Brooks Brothers outlet store.

I surprised no one mentioned this but check out overstock.com. I bought a black Nicole Miller suit for about 140.00. At least for me it is a nice suit. Overstock every once in a while has nice selections. But if you are a 40R (or another popular size) picking are slim.

A few budget places for men's suits:

Men's Wearhouse
S&K Menswear
Jos A. Bank
Brooks Brothers outlet store

I've gotten some suits from BB outlet and were satisfied with them. I really like the style of Banana Republic suits but they seem overpriced at around $475 regular price. I was able to get one on sale for under $200 earlier this year though.

I really don't like department store suits. They seem to have a very cheap feel. Men's warehouse seems somewhat lacking too; they don't seem to have a wide selection and the quality seems mediocre. I've been wondering where to go to find a nicer quality suit...

Apparently you can get custom handmade suits in China for $200. If I ever go there...

whatever you do, don't buy it without it being on sale. At any given time either Macy's or Penney's or someone else with have a $100 off or 2 for 1 sale. Unless there's one specific event coming up you need it for (funeral/wedding) then definitely wait till you can find them onsale.

I've done well with Jos A Bank. They have frequent sales, so they are reasonably priced for a good quality suit.

if you're up for it you want to try various individual suit shops around wherever you live. My dad has been going to the same place for 30 years, so whenever they have huge sales he gets huge discounts. All the suits he's purchased for me (christmas presents, graduation presents, etc.) have "retail" prices of 2k and above, but they can be found for 70-80% off if you get lucky. $500 sounds like it still might be above what you're looking for, but that brings up the argument that a suit is an investment, etc. etc.

Anyways, visit various shops in your yellow pages and see what you can find. The materialistic side of me cherishes my Brioni suit above anything else I own. It feels like you're walking around naked

Unfortunately auditors don't wear suits to work everyday so I'll have to save mine for holiday parties and whatnot

It's all about the fit. Depending on your body type the fit will make or break it. It is worth spending a bit more to find a suit that 'actually fits you properly!'

Took me f0cking ages to find a suit that would fit properly. From £100 to £500. I wasn't prepared to spend £500+

What are you wearing this one for? Interviews or Mon to Friday suit wear?

For me it was a certain cut Hugo suit that fitted me best. Wasn't the more expensive or the cheapest but it fitted me best. When I go to an asian country I'll get a bunch of suits tailored and some shirts.
