Alot of people like to DD race cars too with no issues, doesn't mean it's comfortable or practical :awe:
My M3 is more comfortable than my 120d M Sport. The ride is more compliant, mostly due to the lack of RFT's that plague decent ride on all non-M cars. The 120 is stiff as fook, too, but I like tight suspension on all my cars.

Honestly, M3 is an awesome car, but, if you care more about comfort and driveability, just get an auto 335i.

A co-worker uses his as a DD. Has over 120k, but the ECU had to replaced a couple times while it was under the CPO warranty.

I've only driven BMWs since I started driving in 1999. I currently have an 01 540i/6 and my brother has an 03 M3 SMG, which I love. To be honest, this will be my last BMW (I've gone through 7 of them). BMWs just aren't reliable. My next car will be a Subaru WRX.

Also vastly more expensive, unfortunately. You could have a really nice E46 M3 and a really nice 335i for the price of a fresh E90 M3. (I have been pondering both options).

I can't be the only one here who thinks the E46 looks better than the E90/E92, right? I certainly like the new M3, but the E46 is just gorgoeus.

I feel the same way, the E46 is a looker for the ages.

That being said, I would not buy an SMG. While they are generally reliable, there is a hydraulic pump that is prone to failure and it's about $3000 to get it fixed. Only thing that kept me away from a super sweet 2006 Competition model in that blue color a couple months before I got the MB.

Maybe he meant to say 335i? Looking at prices on eBay, I think I would rather get an E90 335i than pay nearly $30k for an E46 M3. I'm not sure how typical those prices are though.

Not at all, I think its pretty unanimous in this forum that the E46 M3 is the best looking M3 by far, not to mention a sexier engine.

Maybe the upholstery is custom. I didn't think BMW ever used cloth on their seats. Personally, I don't always care for leather as much as cloth from a practical standpoint; e.g in the summer.

That appears to be an OEM M-cloth interior. Very rare in the US but definitely OEM. I have no idea how the market at large values M-cloth versus leather, but I think the cloth has cachet among enthusiasts.

I prefer leather really. Might be slightly more uncomfortable in the heat but you can wipe off the seats and shower when you get home. Cloth seats will just soak up and get nasty over time.

The color anyway, not sure what's up with the interior, would rather have all grey.

omg, if i had the money, i would buy that car in a heartbeat

cloth interiors in bmw's are extremely rare, they are usually offered only in sportier models of m3, such as the e36 LTW m3, and this e46 with the competition package

and the resale value of a cloth interior, especially if u take care of it and sell it to an enthusiast, is VERY high

I drive a 04 SMG M3. It's fun. But it doesn't work as a daily driver. I guess I am getting old. But it's a great weekend car. check out m3forum.net

Your getting old

Depends what you want and your preference. I know my dad wouldn't/ couldn't use it as a DD as he finds it too stiff, low and jerky but he isn't use to the SMG. But for me it's perfect

I'm surprised no one mentioned the fact that the listing says "no accidents" but both the SS of the carfax and ebay report one.

I hear that 60k maintenance is pricey. Avoid 2001's

Subframe issues and suspension bushings.... worn interior bits are common
