I may buy one. I'm beginning to think, or realize, that it's a PITA to upgrade your PC to the latest and greatest in order to play games. A dedicated gaming and media machine like a modded Xbox is the bomb. It's great for in the living room and if someone gets bored of the games it can stream movies or music from any one of 3 computers on the network not to mention what it has on its drive. Plus they usually sell new consoles for cheaper than they cost. So even if it's between $300 and $400, the Xbox 360 is a killer value considering the hardware you will be getting. Either way you buy games, yet a 360 can be had for the price of a video card, so its much cheaper.

But the PC can do so much more than games! Well indeed I hardly do much gaming anymore, but I think if I were to keep my current PC (~2ghz, 1GB ram, 9800 pro) for everything else but games, I wouldn't have much need to upgrade. It is plenty fast enough for most tasks. I used to edit audio and video on a 550mhz, then a 1.33ghz machine, so this is plenty fast enough for any multimedia or development crap I've done.

So I think a dedicated gaming machine will be the way to go... plus I can make more of a distinction between gaming/fun->Xbox ... work-> PC

All true. I've been getting more into Console gaming lately too. Although as I mentioned I wasn't thrilled and awed by the XBox. Although it was pretty awesome modded with all the other stuff you could do with it. If XBox360 has the same kind of mod community it might be worth grabbing one after all

 I've been coming around a bit lately.

Depends on what developers they've locked down. If the 360 has the games, that's where I'm going. If not, hello PS3 and/or Revolution.

Actually, Oblivion is reason enough to buy 360, and Vision Gran Turismo the PS3. So that leaves the Revolution flapping in the wind with.. what? More Zelda and Mario iterations?

The same could be said about the Gran Turismo series. Each console has it's own unique series, Zelda and Mario are a few of Nintendo's. Cut 'em a break, huh?

So, what are the killer apps for revolution that are not zelda and mario iterations ?

I am forced to agree that neither of those even remotely tempts me.

:disgust: I'm also really looking forward to seeing what Nintendo has in mind with their Revolution...being a loyal Nintendo fan all my life I really hope they can spit something up that will put them back in the game.

Perfect Dark for the 360 looks like total garbage. Cel shading Joanna and putting her in a brightly colored world with mechs and flying robots is not what we need. I just want a pumped up version of the old PD on the N64, the game that scored 9.9 at Gamespot and blew us all away.

I might buy one. Depends how many of the games come over to the PC though. If a lot of the good games stay on the 360 then I will probably buy one. And/or if the games are ported with lesser quality graphics.

Metroid most notably. Samus should play quite nicely on the Revolution. I'm also looking forward to the next F-Zero installment and of course SmashBros is a blast for a party game(although certainly weak SP). It looks to have enough titles to keep it sitting next to the 360 and PS3 in my AV setup.

Repost, and by the way it's really too early to tell what people are going to do. I think that most of us will wait until the PS3 is released as well, unless you are one of the people that will just spend the money on both.

I just played a console game, one of the Rainbow Six titles, on XBOX last night. First time I've played a console game in several years and all I can say is - BLECH! The resolution, on my friends wide screen HDTV was absolutely horrific, the controls sucked, the gameplay was uber-simplistic and I wanted to barf. I felt like I was playing DOOM II the graphics were so crappy.

I guess you can expect that on four year old technology.

In any case, I am thinking I might get an XBOX 360 if it plays at HDTV resolutions. I could hook it up to our big family room plasma screen and play Madden '06 or maybe an MLB game as well. Sports games are all I'm really interested in for the console - FPS games I'm more comfortable playing in the privacy of my own room, where I can focus much more on the task at hand; hardcore |)\/\/N4g3!12111!@#!

Nah, Im getting a PS3. MS seems like they dont know what kinda xbox 360 they are going to make. I feel sorry for those who buy the first ones only to see a different model come out with HD-DVD and better backwards compatibility. Sonys PS3 seems to be spec properly off the bat. Notice how MS said only "some" xbox games will work with the 360? And how they recenlty announced a dif model coming on the heels of the initial 360? Anyway, I never liked any of the xbox only titles.

Consoles never hold my interest (I tried a PS2 and later an XBox and both lasted about a month before I sold them and the games I'd bought) but if I were getting one of the next-gen ones it would be the XBox360 as it already shows to have more of the games that would interest me. The Nintendo offering sucks imho because I have no interest in Mario, Link, or Samus, and that's all they offer exclusively really, so everything worthwhile is either available on other systems also, or is exclusive to other systems. PS3 might be interesting but I really don't find it very exciting yet.

I dont know why people are writing off the Revolution and why people have a beef with Nintendo in general. Remember they're having to cut stuff out of Resident Evil 4 to make it playable on the Ps2, and as for playing that game on the Xbox forgettaboutit. The Gamecube was the most powerful console this go around, people were just too stupid to realize it and wrote it off prematurely.

As for the Xbox 360 in terms of processing power its going to be the weakest console of the 3. That means less physics, less complex AI. Personally I see no reason to buy it at launch especially since there will be few great games.

I'm going to buy one if I have to. But if I get some people to click on my signature link and do the offer, we'll all get it for free!
