Hi, I'm debating to wether get the 7900gt or the x1900xt.

I can get the 7900gt for ~270

Or x1900xt 512mb for ~360

which is better deal?

IMO the X1900XT is well worth the extra $90. The 7900GT is also a good card and for gaming at 1280x1024 it would probably be the better bang for the buck. If you game at resolutions higher than that than the X1900XT is the best choice IMO.

do u plan on keeping your mobo and going SLI later?

if not, definitely the X1900XT...although the 7900gt price is very good too.

At $360 the X1900XT is the better deal by far (especially if you want to play Oblivion). Hell, the eVGA/XFX overclocked 7900GT's cost about that much anyway. As for where to find the deal, check the Hot Deals subforum. I just bought one myself.

Oh, one more thing. People who are buying the 7900's are getting estimated ship dates of April 12th or so. My order has a ship date of March 20th, so if you want it sooner rather than later, take the X1900XT.

That's an amazing price, but where do people get those Dell coupon codes? I would jump on that if it didn't take so much work to get a coupon.

if u care about heat-power consumption-drivers then i will be too hard to decide..can any X1900XT owner tell us about the 3 aforementioned? cuz many ppl are having troubles..n i will be considering a 7900/x1900xt purchase next june if no new cards were released

Oh it is, $90 is only about 33% more money, and long term the XT might be a lot faster. I know it might not work out on a strictly price/performace ratio, but if we are too strict about that sort of thinking we would all only be buying $155 X850XTs.

3x the shader processing power of a stock 7900GT, 2x the memory size for future games, better HDR performance and image quality. Plus it outperforms stock 7800GTX ~ 7900GT stock by significant amounts in shader intensive games (good indicator of upcoming games).

Far Cry - 2048x1536 - 4AA/16AF
7800GTX = 30.1
X1900XT = 51.4 (+71%)

FEAR - 1600x1200 4AA/16AF
7800GTX = 27.0
X1900XT = 50.0fps (+85%)

COD2 - 1280x1024 4AA/16AF
7800GTX = 29.0
X1900XT = 36.8 (+27%)

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - 2048x1536 4AA/16AF
7800GTX = 26.9
X1900XT = 41.6 (+55%)

Probably worth $90 extra for those with high end systems. For general playability and enjoyment of games, 7900GT, esp OC should be plenty at 1280x1024.

Here's my .02 to answer your question.

1) Heat - The X1900XT runs at about 75-90C under load depending on case airflow and ambient temps. Because the hot air is exhausted out the back of your case, temps inside your rig will be unaffected and might even be lower than with a 7900GT. While the temps might seem high, a lot of the high end cards in the last 2 years have run at those temps (X850XT PE ran at ~80C and 7800GTX ran at ~75-80C with no issues).

2) Power consumption - Honestly the only people for whom this will be a concern are those running on a generic "400W" PSU or those worried about the extra $0.75 a month it will cost you to run this card over a 7900GT. If the former, you should really get a new PSU anyway no matter what card you get, and if the latter, than you probably aren't the type of person to buy a $350-450 video card.

3) Drivers - Have never had a problem with them at all. I've gone through 6 Nvidia cards and 3 ATI cards in the last 1.5 years and I've honestly had less problems with the ATI drivers than I have the Nvidia ones. Nvidia drivers still worked well, I just had more issues with them.

I would get the X1900XT. The X1900XT even beats the 7900GTX in most cases(and when it doesn't, it only trails it by 2 or 4 FPS, so get the X1900XT.
