Finally settled on a truck, A longbed supercrew ecoboost f150. Unfortunately no one irders the longbed option so I was looking at ordering, waiting 6 weeks and Paying 36.5.

Late last night I found my truck, used and 2011 with a few extra options for 10k less. Dealership seems on the level, a no haggle ford dealer. Clear history on the autocheck, but they did disclose that the owner hit something and there was 2500 of bodywork done on the passenger door/bed.

Price still seems right to me and I've talked to the body guy at the dealer. Thinking about trying to arrange for a mechanic to check it out, but don't know any mechanics in kansas city. At this point i think im going through with it regardless, but wondered if i was being too trusting.

Had the dealer drive it to an independent collision repair shop and they approved of the work. A little chip/clearcoat issue inside the door jamb but nothing to worry about. Won't have it in time for christmas but may have my new truck for new years.

ask urself if saving 10k is worth
suspect frame
huge resale loss(50?% maybe)
never having a known quantity
2500 worth of body work is one thing
frame repair is another altogether
u might have issues getting collision, maybe not
id keep fishing and no way id buy this truck unless it was<50% msrp.
sry man, i dont wanna come in here raINING on your parade but srsly man keep looking

$2,700 is repairs is nothing. I would look at pics of the frame area from another truck and compare it. My thought is that the step mount was damaged and a new one welded on.

Sync without the full screen is rough though .

Yea, when the shop looked at it they said it looked like there was never damage to the frame and that the auction house will write that on anything with body damage.

Will miss the Sync screen. For another 10k I could get a 13 with the options I chose(a few less than this one has), pick my color, get 40k less miles, and get the 4.2" screen. Just can't talk myself into it. Friggen credit union check hasn't shown up though, so have to try and straighten that all out on wednesday. Might take the time to get my x plan price on a new truck then, but too cheap to go for it.

Yeah, body work is friggin' expensive. I had damage to two body panels on my car from some flying freeway debris. The only part that needed to replaced was the door handle and the repair was still $2k. It was basically a dent on one panel and scuffs on another.

I think you need to drive it and check it out for yourself. 26k is a lot to spend on a vehicle sight unseen. I don't see frame repairs being an issue though. If the frame was truly damaged it would have cost a hell of a lot more then 2500 in repairs. That little side step probably got tweaked and they had to bend it back or replace it.

I'd say if you drive it and look it over and see no issues then 26 is a fair price. Never heard of a no haggle dealer though. If its a long drive see if they'll knock off the price of gas and a hotel room. 26k for a 2011 Eco boost is a pretty low margin already even though its seen body work. Doesn't hurt to ask though.

What a small world! I'm one of the sales consultants at this dealer! It's not unusual for Ford to declare something with frame damage at the auction, yet when a customer takes it to their bodyshop, they find no frame damage. I sold a truck a couple years ago that Ford declared as frame damage because a tow hook was replaced. I think it's more a case of them covering their butts.

Most dealers wouldn't disclose this information to you if it isn't on the history report. We are a pretty straight forward dealership. We will pass on any information we have whether it's on the history report or not. I sold an Edge a few days ago that had a clean history report. However, when we bought it, it was disclosed that a bumper cover was replaced. I disclosed that to the customer. Do we have to? No. But we feel it's the right way to do business.

If you have any doubts about a vehicle, you should take it to an independant body shop to look at so you can feel more confident about what you are buying. Make sure you say hello when you come in. I'm Jason.

Small world indeed! Finally got the check to Zeck today. Not going to come in, letting the truck come to me. I've been working with David, he's been very helpful, even got the truck to my bodyshop with 5 minutes notice.

Well after rushing to get the check there on saturday they didn't get the shipping arranged over the weekend, the shipping company was out on monday so today they got it setup and it is leaving friday and I should have it on sunday.

Had to priceline for yet another car rental(compact, 2 days for $55) to get me to work for the next two days. Guy at the Avis counter was sifting through a stack of a dozen+ keys that had been sent in. I commented and he said we'd get mine out of the pile, I told him to just give me the mustang.

He punched it up and gave me a mustang for a $5 per day upcharge. Had a huge grin on my face and really made my day. Have a 2013 black mustang to play with for the next two days, unfortunately only going to have fun for a short bit between work/gym/MIL.
