Buying the Sharp LC-32D62U and wondering how to connect to PC...

Hi,
I was recently looking around at different 32" tvs and I stumbled upon the Sharp LC-32D62U. Why I chose this tv was for a couple of reasons. It has a great contrast ratio, good looks, and most importantly full 1080p. Because of the high resolution I have since realized that it may be possible to get rid of my 17" LCD and use the HDTV instead (I know it is possible to use TVs as monitor because I have seen a friend do this before). But now having read that there are no DVI or VGA inputs for the TV, I am left wondering if this was all a pipe dream. My only other options that I can see as being feasible are using S-Video or the HD component outs. I have a good video card that has multiple video outs including the two options listed above so that wouldn't be a problem. Anyways my question is this... Would I be able to get away with using one of those two video connectors and still have the max resolution? Or will it be trashy and not worth the money?

There's been a number of HDMI panels that don't work well with PCs because they have no option to bypass overscan. AVS forums would be the place to check for problems with that specific specific panel. As far as in general, there is nothing wrong with your idea. HDMI is supposed to be 100% compatible with DVI. In practice... well anyway. Component video goes as far as 720p and 1080i. S-video is right out. Newegg reviewer says as far as pros: "Aspect - dot by dot an important feature if you plan to hook up a HTPC." So you may be in luck.

I've been running a Westinghouse LVM-37W3 for a while now, and I'd recommend it as a known performer. The Sharp LC-32GP1U has that 2000:1 contrast ratio and a DVI port. Don't always trust newegg reviews.

Even better! I was wary of having to fork over 40$ bucks a hdmi-dvi converter.
