I am getting a static type buzzing noise coming through my speakers whenever I move, or drag a window or click on something. I also get it when I drag the mouse pointer, and press keys on keyboard. But its louder when I click on difernt things. This has never happend befored, it just started all of a sudden. I replaced a side mount intake fan this morning but not sure it that has anything to do with it? I disconnected the fan, and it still does the noise. I am also getting a humming whining sound when I play a game.

Please help

Thanks

First. I'd try making sure you chose the correct speaker configuration under your control panel.

Then, I'd make sure you didn't crank volume control to the max.
And then I'd lower WAV to 75%
If that doesn't work, :Q

Would the speaker configuartion have changed by itself you think? Its been fine and had the system for a year up untill now. I will check it and see though. Thanks.

What kind of speakers do you have? Try muting the microphone and see if it still makes noise.

I have logitech z640s 5.1

I tryed lowering the wave volume, restarted pc and it did no good. Under "Advanced Audio Properties-Speaker Setup, it says Quadrophonic Speakers, and I have 5.1. I never noticed it saying quadrophonic before. I changed it to 5.1 and it keeps going back to quadrophonic

Hmm,I dont have a microphone hooked up to this system. I noticed also that when I use the scroll bar, it makes same noise.

try muting line in aux in etc. also. as for 5.1 not sticking, your sound card driver setting may be overiding that, hunt around in the sound card utils for the speaker setup.

Thanks Crispy. I am trying to find "aux in" so I can do that, but cant locate it. Where would this be at? I have onboard sound with my Asus Motherboard, so there isnt many options.I shut down the system last night, and this morning , the speaker setup was on 5.1, where it should be, but is still making this noise. If this helps, here are my specs.

Asus K8VSE-Deluxe- onboard sound , no sound card.
Winxp sp2
amd64 3400+
geforce 6800GT (256)

I have / had exactly the same problem (low intensity buzzing from the sound system when moving the mouse, which is USB connected) with a new Asus P5S800-VM M/B (onboard sound, video, LAN, LGA775). I don't have anything fancy in the way of sound system (just plain old ancient MIC ---made in China---stereo speakers).

Inspired by the suggestions on this forum, I tried muting all and sundry, one thing at a time, and muting the PC speaker got rid of the noise. Reducing the PC speaker volume without muting reduced the buzzing proportionatley. Muting it should not affect anything of significance, because the POST beep signals should still work on boot-up.

Sounds like 1 of two things. Your speakers are picking up a wireless phone signal (mine do that if a cell phone is turned on in the room) or there is some SERIOUS EMI getting into your case. I can't hear the sound so I can't be sure.

I had the same problem and 'cured' it by muting the PC speaker. However, My Microsoft Optical Mouse (wired) died today and having replaced it with a new Logitec optical wired one, the buzzing does not happen now, even with the PC speaker not muted. So it seems like the noises were the mouse protesting over its demise! I was thinking bad things about the new Asus motherboard, but it was just the dying mouse. BTW, both mice have been connected via the same USB port.
