BXBoards.com closing down

Hey,

It's been over 3 years, but we've decided to close BXBoards indefinately. Since I've recieved so many emails from readers anxious to check out my Radeon All In Wonder review that I've been promising, I'll go ahead and put that together, however I don't know if BXBoards.com will be around after March 22.

Andy also has a couple of more motherboards that he'll review as well.

We regret having to do this, but our advertisers haven't been paying, our host keeps dropping us with extra bandwidth charges (we've used 60GB this month) and AirMail between Andy and I keeps getting lost. We've lost $600 worth of hardware in the past 2 months because of AirMail not making it across the Atlantic ocean (he's in the UK, I'm in the US).

So, with regrets, we've been forced to close since neither of us has the time, nor the spare cash to keep the site running. Blame UGO.com, blame the PostalService, blame CIHosts or Pair.com. Whoever you blame, there isn't much we can do about it right now.

I won't disspear from the scene. I'm looking for a 'job' elsewhere and I may be popping up rather close to home. =-)

FYI, if we manage to keep the site up beyond March 22, we should maintain about 500,000 hits per month even without new content for months on end...

I wish them the best. I think I'll write them an email when I get home and thank them for the hardwork they have put in over the years.

That's a shame despite having never owned a "BX Board" I've always liked that site

It's a lot harder than it looks. =-)
The emails of support are great but most of the work is long and thankless and it pays less than flipping burgers (unless your name is Anand)

that is truly sad news. i have been reading bxboards since 1999 when i first started looking for a motherboard based on the bx chipset. you guys were one of the only review sites out there that reviewed the sy-d6iba line from soyotek, which is what runs my system today. i have you guys to thank for that. hope you find your way, and good luck with what ever you pursue down the road.

This is really to bad, it was one of the better sites out there. I think that a lot of sites that are advertiser supported are going to go down the tubes in the next 5 - 6 months. I think that Anand is also going to have a problem keeping the site and the BBS alive with advertiser based income.

AT's not going anywhere.

BXB made cash on the order of $1500/month. Our costs range from $1500 to $2000 for bandwidth, hosting, customs and taxes and misc hardware. That leaves Andy and I working without pay and sometimes Andy is forced to pay out-of-pocket.

AT brings in closer to $100,000/month I think. I can't imagine their costs being much higher than $15,000 or $20,000/month, not including paying employees. That leave roughly $80,000 for well.. whatever...

Very very sorry to hear that. The BXBoards site has always been one of my favorites, I learned a lot from that site, especially in the early days.
