Bypassing AOL software

I'm currently an AOL user (long story), anycase, I'm also using WindowsXP. Is there a way for me to bypass AOL's software and just use Windows Dialup instead. I've tried creating a Dialup connection in windows with my username, password, and AOL's local number but the server will not authenticate me. I know some ISPs have special characters they send in place of the username...does AOL have something similiar?

i dont think that's possible. why not just switch to another isp like earthlink?

i'm sure the software sends out some odd string. The only way to find out for sure is to run some kind of sniffer that captures strings sent by your modem.

dial up networking won't work with aol or compuserve.....no way around it....screw aol and go dsl all the way!!

nope it can't be done. AOL has a priopeority (sp) network setup, it even screews up your other dialup setting... even if it did aol will probably change that w/ it next revision
