I could use a combo USB2.0 / Firewire enclosure in either a 3.5" or a 5.25" model.

Thanks

**WRONG** Have you tried using this code? Looked to be a per order code rather than a per item one when I tried to use it to order 2x this. But I could well be wrong... **WRONG**

Yep you're wrong. It's per specific products... I tried to buy a slim 2.5" enclose and that was a no-go.

I didn't have time to try last night but I thought it may be product specific becuase the coupon code looked like a play on the model number.

It seems that others have proven the coupon product specific.

I was hoping other models would have similar coupons.

Thanks

I just got mine, and I have a Maxtor 160GB in there. One thing I've noticed is that the fan vent seems to be almost completely blocked off. Is anyone else's like that?

Performance wise, it seems very fast. In fact, when copying files, my current HD (probably fragmented) could not keep up the read speed.

On a side note, my package from FedEx was not actually delivered by FedEx, but some guy in a Ryder truck. Looks like even FedEx is subcontracting.

Subtotal: 14.99

Tax: 0.00

Total: 22.25

...but I bit... thanks OP!

Fedex states this on their website

Anyone know if this enclosure's chipset supports Norton Ghost 2003 or standard DOS USB 2.0 drivers? I'd like to use it for backups on my Abit NF7-S based system. The IDE-to-USB adapter cable I bought refuses to be recognized outside of Windows.

Thats what IDE means, this wont work for sata at all.

ok, I feel stupid, that makes it obvious now. When I read the title of the page, it kindof worried me :

You are at: Home > USB, IEEE 1394 Firewire, Serial ATA SATA Accessories and Enclosures > USB2.0 External Enclosures for 2.5"/3.5" Hard Drives and 5.25" Optical Drives

that's why I asked. thanks for clarifying though.

Glad this come up...this will be the second one I ordered...put it with a 200 gb internal seagate hd (see hot deal from outpost) and when its all said and done I will have an external hd for less than $95.00

The first one I bought works great!!!

Thanks, OP. I didnt buy this one but they did have a NexStar by Vantec for 15.99 for a 2.5" laptop drive and thats what I really needed. Hate to pay the $7 shipping but still a good deal. Tried the code you posted just in case but no joy.

BTW, I have a Bytec with a 2.5" drive also and never had a problem on any computer I have ever used it with. Sorry, dont know the chipset though.

Perhaps XPCGEAR should just start buying ads here. Note the similarities of OP post count, subject matter and location with this thread.

I cant speak for already formatted drives, as my drive was virgin, but i formatted my 300gb drive with ntfs and it works like a champ. I should see no reason why it wont work with an existing drive as ive taken my enclosure and used it on many peoples systems.

I bought one of the super cheap 2.5" drive enclosures and was able to easily format the drive to NTFS with Windows XP.

Got this last week, the small fan in the back is completely obstructed and useless, I took my dremel to it to allow more than zero airflow. Other than that it seems pretty good, xp recognizes it well. I never realized how slow usb was until now, anybody know a good deal for external SATA enclosures?
