Don't know to go for 965 or 680i/650i
with e6400/e6600

max budget $500 for cpu and mobo

just got my ddr2 kit today and don't have a case besides an ultra-wizard mid, so I may continue to wait as well...

Just curious...where did you buy that memory? I couldn't find it anywhere on Crucial's web site, nor the major web retailers (ie Newegg).

I'm really enjoying my EVGA 680i board. I haven't experienced any of the problems that others are reporting (knock on wood) and the latest P24 BIOS has allowed me to hit 3.4GHz with my E6400. I'm still testing and will be moving it up hoping to hit 3.6GHz but I'm pretty happy with the current OC even if it won't go higher. You should be able to get the EVGA 680i, E6400, and a Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX for $500 and have lots of fun playing around with OC'ing.

Doobie, thanks for the responce, are you able to run 1T timing on the EVGA board?
Yea 3.4 seems like a sweet spot from 3.4 - 3.6 probally needs too much more volts to make it worth it.. I was pretty set on the ARTIC COOLING Freezer 7 PRO, but i know many people prefer the TTBigTyphoon or TuniqTower, but I was really into the ac7pro's weight, price, and even high tech mx-1 paste they provide..

Lapping isn't out the question but, I'm a grit size noob...

Memory is quickly dropping in price! I paid $240 for my new set from a member here on AT.. $270 might have been worth it, as I don't think they're available anymore..

Now there's a rev 3.3 DS3 on the way that will support fsb 1333, wonder how close to 1333 these can go..

Why would you be set on a heatsink barely better than stock?

Check out the Noctua NH-U12F.

It's only 700g, & it cools with the best of them.

As for motherboard, i'd say P5B-E rev. 1.02G. or P5N-E SLI.

Thx for the info, never heard of Noctua.. Seems to be the best CPU coooler but not the best at cooling surrounding caps etc..
I thought the ac7pro was just a few C' hotter then the best! Hmmmmm I may have to upgrade to a 120mm HSF type tho...

If you are going to use 2 graphics card in SLI, then you can go with the i680 or the i650. Else go with the 965P
