c300 or m4 128gb?

I have a sata II motherboard and I mostly use my comp for gaming. Would I benefit more from a c300 128gb ssd or a m4 128gb ssd? They seem to be about $20 apart, with the c300 being the cheaper. I've heard positive things about both compared to the other, but I don't know enough about ssds to understand what it means.

since you have sata2, you'd be better served by a vertex 2 or an intel 320

I dont know much about ssds, but I've read some crazy bad things about vertex 2s. I'm going to stay away from a sandforce controller if i can. And the intels are reliable, but I'd rather take my chances with the cheaper and larger crucials. Although after just looking at Newegg, the intel 320 120gb is about the same price as a crucual m4 128gb right now.

Get which ever is cheaper as you won't notice the difference on a sata 2 port.

People have been staying away from Vertex 2 ever since OCZ decided to move from 34nm to 25nm flash. However, there are alternatives to the Vertex 2, like the Corsair Force, Mushkin Callisto, and G.Skill Phoenix, which AFAIK, haven't moved away from 34nm flash.

i troll newegg's site like daily and sometimes see "$20 off using coupon xxxx for intel drives" when you actually open the links.

they're actually pretty cheap right now without a coupon.

Yeah looks pretty good. I think it's down to the c300 or the intel 320 for me. Anyone know if the c300 was ever switched to 25nm or is it still 34nm? If it's still 34nm, that might put it over the top.

EDIT: the new Crucials are 25 nm nand, I just returned two 128 gb M4's. They didn't come close to giving me the reads that are advertised. You can still find the C300's pretty much everywhere though with the 34 nm nand.

Wow thanks for the info. I've never used newegg business before. Is there any difference ordering from them compared to the regular newegg? Also would still like to know if c300s are 34nm or 25nm if anyone knows.

The C300 is last generation. The M4 is essentially the C400, they've just changed their naming scheme/product lines a bit.

Since the C300 is last gen it is 34nm NAND. The M4 is this gen, and they've moved to 25nm. They haven't done any shifts under the radar like other drive makers, I believe.

i was looking at these c300 and m4's for another pc of mine just yesterday. the c300 is almost better all around, except i noticed the m4 has had 3 new firmware revisions since the reviews. wonder if it's any better. anandtech should do a re-review of the m4.

See post 11 above on the M4's. Crucial support is allmost non existent for their SSD's.

yeah, that was actually what my post was in reference to. i got one before reading up on it like a big fat stupid

i guess their new firmwares for it don't do shit to help it.
