My brother seems to like the C4 as well, and he's pretty tough on them. In fact, his RatPadz is slick and the feet on his Logitech MX700 have worn off because he pushes down on the mouse so hard when playing.

you should buy mouse tape for that mouse i've worn off the logitech pads too before i got tape.

He was asking if he should get some of that. I'll tell him to give it a try.

Thanks for recommending it.

Why are some of you complaining about a $2.50 shipping charge? I'm a full time college student without a huge amount of money, but $2.50 seems really reasonable for such a quality product. Eat the charge, we all like deals but how many of us go out and buy a new game the day it comes out and pay $50 and in sixth months it costs $19.99. You win some and you lose some, $2.50 doesn't affect me.

Thanks for the feedback (good and bad) on freight. Because of your feedback, we created smaller size put-ups with lower freight charges. We have tried to keep everything within reason without taking a loss.

Also because of your great feedback on C4, we are introducing it and "Son of C4" at PDXLAN v2.04.

.
What is son of c4?
As a result of Beta Tests done here at AT, we started working on a new product which we fondly call "Son of C4, the Next Generation". The product is C4 surface with a Black Rubber Grip Backing. There is no adhesive. We can make any size from large to small. It can be rolled, rinsed, cut in custom shapes. Even the largest, 16 x 16 can be transported to Lan parties just by rolling it up with a rubber band. We have tried to put all the things into it that members said they would like. Availability will be Feb. It will be shown for the first time at PDXLAN v2.04 Jan 16 to 19. It's on our site now. It's still got its super fast, super slick surace. We hope it's well received. I'm really enthusiastic!

After I re-do my rig I'll probably buy some of the skates and not sure if I'll get the Son of C4 or the standard adhesive pad and stick it to something hehe.. question is.. I noticed there are two different sizes for the skates.. the 1/4 inch and the 3/4 inch.. which seem to work better.. I have a Logitech MX300 optical mouse and some other standard logitech optical mice.

And what are the differences between the discs and the dots?

There are "dots" now? Hehe. I just got the tape. Using it on a MX500 and an MX700.

No difference in the material, just the discs and dots are precut to the sizes said.

Some folks just don't know a good thing when they see it. Sherry ...... you guys rock and so does your products. I will gladly pay a few extra buck to improve my game playing skills. I will be ordering some of the C4 shortly.

PS: the idea of having pre cut C4 to fit the high end mouse pads (ratzpad etc etc) sounds like an excellent idea to me. Think about it... if their willing to pay $20-30 for a pad why wouldn't thay pay another 10-15 to make it the "best" pad. My 2 cents

Well I would think that they'd be the same material however there are dots and discs that are the same size but are still listed separately so not sure what the differences are hehe

Both are Teflon with sticky back. Dots are smaller, Discs are bigger. Both are round.

You're right though, the picture shows both sizes, discs in foreground, dots in background so that's a pretty good visual guide.

Well, I was tempted by all the great comments here, so I ordered some tape and a C4 pad.
I got the tape first and I couldn't believe how much better it made my mouse.
Buy the tape no matter what mousing surface you like. As has been noted, you can't get it anywhere cheaper than CS Hyde.

My C4 arrived the next day. I ordered a larger pad than I had thought, so I actually ended up with enough C4 to apply to both my 3M Precise Mousing Surface and my wife's Dell pad that shipped with her system.

The difference on the 3M was incredible. The 3M pad is designed for ball mice, so it's not the smoothest surface around. The C4 made it much better.
The Dell pad, however, was actually better without the C4, in my opinion.
I was very surprised by this, but I did some very careful scientific testing (I closed my eyes and ran the mouse over the C4 and the regular Dell surface ), and confirmed that I like the Dell pad better.
My wife got cranky when I asked her if we could trade pads, so I bought my own from eBay.

Rockhammer, if you have the time or the inclination, perhaps you can do a quick test between the Dell pad and the C4 WITH the teflon tape on the mouse (you didn't note if you used tape or not, so I assume you used the stock mouse feet), and that way you can tell me if I'm nuts for feeling like the Dell pad is just a touch slicker than the C4. BTW, great review, I enjoyed reading it.

The one and only complaint I have about C4 is that I found the backing pretty hard to remove - if I peeled the slightest bit too quickly, some of the adhesive would come off of the C4 and clump up. This was really hard to get rid of, and the resulting spot would leave a very noticeable bump on the C4. Perhaps instead of the bumpy plastic backing you could use something smooth?
Or you can tell me that I was too darn impatient, and deserve what I got

I'm happy to hear about the Son of C4 project - wish it had been available when I first ordered. I'll keep my eye out and will definitely consider it - especially if Rockhammer determines that I am, in fact, nuts

Last thing - customer service was 100% top notch. I ordered right around the holidays and I got a confirmation e-mail when everything shipped, and even a note apologizing for turnaround time being a little slow due to the holidays - Relax, Sher, everyone deserves a break once in a while!

Cool, I'm going to have to try these products out. There's a new LAN center opening up near my house in February, so If I like them, I'll recomend them to the manager. I have a few questions:

1) Do the teflon discs ever wear out? If so, how often to they have to be replaced?

2) Do the teflon discs work better on any particular surfaces (besides the C4 pads)?

3) I know the maximum benifit is achieved when both teflon discs and the C4 pads are used together, but what are some of your experiences with using only one or the other (especially only using the discs)?

4) Is the material for the teflon discs and the C4 pads the same?

5) Are small samples available?

Thanks.

A quick suggestion for CS Hyde:

I also noticed the new C4 pads are coming out soon. Maybe you can name them something other than "Son of C4" (it sounds a little wierd IMHO).

I was thinking C4-2, C4-X or C4-Cu (if they're going to be copper colored).

Thanks.

Son of c4 is just a temporary name We are working on something else

To answer Your questions Jawadali

1) Yes they do wear out...depends on use one disc should last from 2-8 Weeks...Results Vary.

2) They Work great on any surface but c4 really brings out their potential!

3) I personaly dont use disc\skates I like a little more feedback from my mouse .......Call me crazy...Sher often does

4) No..... completly diffrent. c4 | Teflon are diffrent materials.

5) Yes Send Sher or me a pm.....

Good review Crank I'm truely suprised you favored the dell pad over c4.....but thats what makes this world great....Diffrent opinions! I have used just about every mouse pad known to man and nothing to me is even close to c4 but then again im probably biased

Well, I don't know if I emphasized enough that the difference is very small - if you have a custom size/shape/style pad that you want, then the adhesive C4 is the obvious choice.
I'm o.k. with the small Dell pad, and since I managed to goober up the adhesive on part of my C4, the Dell pad is working better for me.
But hey, who wants to take an OEM Dell pad to a Lan party?

I am going to keep an eye out for the Son of C4, though. Sounds like a cool pad.

Right you are about the name. We're working on a new name. --Suggestions welcome. The new design is C4 Copper Top with Black Grip Backing...Maddcsscientist took the new product out to the PDXLan and it was very well received. I haven't gotten the total scoop from him yet but it sounds extremely promising. Stay tuned for our new logo, courtesy of our resident student/ artist/ employee, Brad C.

No links to deals, promotions or offers by your own business or your employer. This is the "No Dealers" rule. We do not intend our forums as a free sales floor for your business. If you want to promote your company on AnandTech, contact our sales department about buying a banner ad.

It seems to me it's time to let the end users either keep this thread aloat or take it into the general hardware forums.

[edit]
Look, I'm not saying this isn't a good product and, as such, should have people support it. It's that the price hasn't changed since introduction, this thread is nearly 3 months old and is being bumped if not responded to after a few days by beta testers (people who've received the product free telling others it's a good deal to pay for it at price X), we have the OP distributing it at lans and suggesting the ability to change the product's name (even if their pay is not from the sale of the product), and it's one of the few Hot Deals in AT history that I can recall having the product's creator responding to messages about the product in it.... all this sounds really close to being a sales channel and not a post pointing out a product being cheaper at store X or a deal when used with coupon Y. If it's about the technical aspects of the product, there's a thread in peripherals about C4... let's just let this post live based on people who haven't been beta testers or representatives.
