Not Canada.

That is the convention for use in the fifty states of the U S A, two letter state abbreviations, for international mailings do not abbreviate single word countries. Or much of anything, it may confuse them.

Until Canada surpasses California in population, I'm pretty sure the argument is moot.

Yep, and Ontario means the shipping hub outside LA, not the province that Toronto is in because no one outside Canada knows what the hell the provinces of Canada are.

I never use CA as an abbreviation for Canada; I did not think anyone did, except for .ca domain names I guess.

I'll mail a letter to Ontario, CA and we'll see where it ends up. I'm guessing nowhere, as I can't bother to spring for a stamp.

Also, when I Google Ontario, CA, it brings up results for California. Is it different if you do it from a Canadian ISP?

First three results for me are Ontario provincial/government sites. Fourth result is the Wiki entry for Ontario California. Everything after that Wiki entry relates to the province in one way or another. :hmm:

I always took it as:
CA=California
CAN=Canada

I only abbreviate for Canada when I'm noting the type of currency. For that, I use CAD. I used to use CAN but publications appear to always use CAD. They also seem to switch between US or USD.

It's easier to use letters for states and provinces, and ISO-3166 for countries.

Canada is 124
USA is 840.

Yeah CAD is the accepted way to denote Canadian currency, at least around these parts.
