CA Microsoft Settlement - get cash vouchers for MS software bought 1995 - 2001

Sorry if this is a repost but I did a search and didn't find anything. This is for California only:

Basically MS is giving vouchers good for cash for certain products purchased between 1995 and 2001. Here's the website to download your claim form and read the FAQ's:
Microsoft-California Settlement

Voucher amounts:
$29 for each Microsoft Office license claimed; $5 for each Microsoft Word, Home Essentials or Works Suite license claimed; and $26 for each Microsoft Excel license claimed.

Claims must be sent in before March 14.

I sent mine in last week for $37. I bought 2 Toshiba laptops in that time-frame and one had Windows with Works and the other had just Windows to claim. I'm sure I bought other qualifying products during those 6 years, but I just can't remember exactly.

You're out of luck. No serial numbers are needed.

Me too. So it can be pre-installed software too? I've got Office going back to the Office95 edition. I wonder how to prove you've had the stuff.

You don't have to prove anything if you claim 5 or less programs and $100 or less in compensation.

People and businesses that are covered by the settlement can get vouchers that may be redeemed for cash after buying eligible computer products[

Claim forms are due by March 15, 2004.

Get a voucher, spend some money and then get some cash (smells something like a rebate).

Not free money!!!

You can exchange your vouchers for cash by submitting proof of purchases you made after July 18, 2003 of the following computer products: Any desktop, laptop, or tablet computer made by any manufacturer for any operating system platform, or any of the following devices: printers, scanners, monitors, keyboards, or pointing devices (e.g. mouse, trackball). Qualifying software includes any non-custom software offered by any software vendor for use on a desktop, laptop or tablet computer. The qualifying computer hardware or software does not have to be a Microsoft product.

It is something like a rebate - except its a rebate on just about any tech product so its virtually as good as cash. Is there anyone on this board who has not bought something on the list since July 18, 2003?

My form says both receipt AND UPC CODE FROM THE PACKAGE ARE NEEDED TO CASH VOUCHER. Aparently they are concerned that somebody will try to get cash for FAR stuff. They also exclude servers from the list of qualified purchases, so the voucher cannot be applied towards that d3ll's 400SC :-(
