In San Diego today, one of the replacement stock boys was assulted with a bat by 2 strikers. Not only did these a-holes follow him/chase him down, this guy now needs reconstructive surgery to his face. :|

Wow, not cool. At all. I actually crossed the picket line today at Albertson's. Just to buy groceries. The whole time though, I was worried they were going to mess up my car or something. I kept peeking out at the parking lot. Everything turned out OK though. The incidents I've heard so far during this strike seem to be mainly directed at scabs. Makes sense I suppose...

Both are being held at the South Bay Detention Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Hopefully with enough outrage, the DA will file the more appropriate (IMHO) charge of attempted homicide and put those bastards away for life or close to it. They deserve to be strung up by the balls.

first off nobody makes $17/hour, that is just a token figure. all they need is one single guy somewhere in thier system making $17/hour and the corporates can then jump up and down screaming that figure with you buying it. (think of it as the token black guy from the movie "Not Another Teen Movie")

if you want the average wage in real terms comparative to places outside of overpriced cali, it'd be in the $7-10/hour range. of course the corporates are paying scabs $19.18/hour to spite the union workers.

however i am still anti-union, because their benefits whether faire or not raise my grocery prices by several dimes each time...

I've read firsthand interview with checkers who think their job is something to keep for life since it pays so much. Yes, these people DO get paid that much. Yes, the COL is higher in california but to make nearly 40K for a skills free job....and then to bitch about having to pay a little more in health care premium is outrageous! (Why do union workers ALWAYS think they are exempt from having to pay higher health care costs?)

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Grocery workers at Kroger stores in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky voted to strike at midnight Monday - just days after Kroger clerks walked out in Southern California.

More than 2,000 members of the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 400 approved a strike, rejecting the company's offer, union officials said.

A spokesman said Kroger planned to close stores at midnight Monday; only its pharmacies will stay open.

"The proposal doesn't provide enough money to pay for our benefits," Jim Lowthers, union president, said. "They ought to be providing for the families that helped earn that money."

The union represents about 3,300 workers for the Cincinnati-based chain in 37 stores in West Virginia, five in Ohio and two in Kentucky.

Kroger is West Virginia's fourth-largest employer, with 5,100 employees statewide.

Clerks at Kroger Co.'s Pavilions and Ralphs walked out late Saturday in Los Angeles, along with workers at two other major chains. Replacement workers were hired.

In Missouri, 10,000 members of United Food & Commercial Workers have been on strike at the St. Louis area's three largest grocers since last week. The 96 stores have hired temporary workers and cut back hours. The biggest sticking point is medical costs.

Kroger proposed an 8 percent increase, $9 million, for workers in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky in what it pays into a health and welfare fund administered by a third party. An independent actuary determined the fund needs $29 million, Lowthers said.

1. Let's keep in mind that the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

2. Even if they are guilty, there's a good chance they'll get off 'cuz their fellow union workers will claim the accused were picketing with them. :|

Where do the strikers shop now? I imagine wherever it is is doing some brisk business.

It is my contention that anyone who crosses a picket line does not give a sh1t about this country.

Whatever Corn. Be a dick and take things out of context, I don't really care. Are you going to run around from topic to topic following me like some lame stalker?

EDIT: I've actually gone out of my way to not cross the supermarket picket lines. The last two times I went shopping, I sought out non-union stores all the way across town and drove quite a bit farther just to support the strikers. Unfortunately, I was in a rush the other day, and needed a couple things. The picketers were actually really cool about it. They gave me a little flyer talking about their side of the argument.

I find this whimpering of yours somewhat amusing. If pointing out your own hypocrisy makes me a dick, then so be it, I'm a dick. I'd rather be a dick than a hypocrite for all to see.

You know what I find to be lame? Hypocrites who get tripped up in their own hypocrisy then claim they are being "stalked".

What does it mean "crossing a picket line" seriously?

Well then god forbid the doctors in the hospitals near you should picket if you get into a car accident.

I remember walking the Picket line when I was a Union Carpenter. Of course we were skilled tradesmen and couldn't be replaced by some asshole off the street like someone stocking shelves.

Oh yeah - I'm a huge hypocrite. Prove it. You're just pissed 'cause I pointed out a huge hole in your Wal-Mart argument. Awwwww, poor Corn. I see how it is though, I guess you're on some huge crusade to "discredit" me now? Whatever.

What "hole" would that be? That the author of the Walmart article claims 34 hours/week as "full time", when in fact it is "part time"? Of couse you didn't comprehend where I was getting at there did you? So here you go, I made it easy for you, have fun with it.

Besides, I don't have to discredit you.......you do that all by yourself.

But hey, it's ok to cross a picket line as long as you're in a hurry. Solidarity!!!!!
