What "hole" would that be? That the author of the Walmart article claims 34 hours/week as "full time", when in fact it is "part time"? Of couse you didn't comprehend where I was getting at there did you? So here you go, I made it easy for you, have fun with it.

Besides, I don't have to discredit you.......you do that all by yourself.

But hey, it's ok to cross a picket line as long as you're in a hurry. Solidarity!!!!!

Yeah sure Corn, let's turn this into a pissing match. Oooooh, fun! Are you having fun yet?

Ya, already one of the accused has a "witness" that he was picketing & not beating. On the otherhand, there are also several witnesses that saw him on the on ramp participating in the attack.

I've read firsthand interview with checkers who think their job is something to keep for life since it pays so much. Yes, these people DO get paid that much. Yes, the COL is higher in california but to make nearly 40K for a skills free job....and then to bitch about having to pay a little more in health care premium is outrageous! (Why do union workers ALWAYS think they are exempt from having to pay higher health care costs?)

Maybe in crazy ass California they get paid that much. In the real world they don't. I worked at Kroger's for 5 years in Wv and at the end I was making $5.50 an hour and minimum wage was $5.15 and I had NO benifits other than a paid one week vacation. About the only checker that made near $17 an hour was the head checker that was more or less 3rd in charge of the store and very rarely ran a register. A couple of the other heads of departments might have made in the $12-$14 but everybody else was $9 or less and most were WAY WAY less. The union really only does anything for the full time employees so Kroger's just doesn't have many full timers. They do have lots off part timers working 39.5 hours a week though isn't that nice ? The union doesn't mind taking money out of the part timers checks though and if I remember right its the same amount for both full timers and part timers. The baggers get NO RAISES ever no matter how long they are there. Everbody else gets small raises based on how many hours you have worked. Both Kroger's and the Union bite.

It is my contention that anyone who crosses a picket line does not give a sh1t about this country.

why does crossing a picket line mean you dont give a sh1t about this country?

I would love to be a scab to take the place of these puss pockets. I hope that the supermarkets can have enough stable scabs that the entire supermarket workforce can be replaced. THEY ARE SCUM.

i still don't understand why "scabs" are hated - aren't they keeping the store open, making sure the strikers have a job to even go back to? would they prefer for albertsons to close so that super walmart can take over so they can work THERE for even less pay and no union?

Thats the unfortunete part of all this. Walmart's goal is to be the #1 provider for food asap. Safeway(Vons) is saying that it doesn't know if it can compete if the strike continues on much further.

This is a loose-loose situation for all....except walmart. Fvck walmart, no one wants them to win. :| except for the Waltons, worth >$20 Billion each(all 5 of them)

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. Try talking to actual baggers, which I have, they don't make anywhere near that type of money. Try actually reading what they are taking away from the workers. They are cutting their pensions plans and their medical plans and freezing their wages for two years. News flash genius without unions you'd still be getting paid $1 an hour. Unions are the reason we actually have reasonable wages, no no by all means lets go back to the early 1900's where corporations owned workers and there was nothing they could do about it.

Wow - you sure do know a lot of things that aren't so

Without a Union the baggers would NOT be getting paid $1/hr. Now I know your going to blabber on about how the Union saved the worker way back when, but thats fine - Unions served a purpose back then. Now days though they aren't needed. People are more informed, free moving, and not as loyal to a company(they switch jobs often). This means that if you don't like an employer and how they treat/pay you - you can leave. Wow - what a concept. Taking personal responsibility for your own job/income - whodda thunk it.

People who "NEED" Unions are weak. Come on take charge of YOURSELF for once - only YOU know what is best for YOU, not some Union reps asshat or some elected official in Washington who things you "NEED" this or that because you can't do it or survive without it.

Bottom line - Take charge of your own life, you don't "need" their supposed "help"

So the weak only need Unions. Well when the weak organize into Unions they are now longer weak. Sounds like a great reason to organize to me. Insulting a person as being weak because he feels the need to organize isn't a very convincing argument IMO.

Unions were also needed when anti-trust legislation wasn't around. If the employers colluded to control prices of the product, then they could just as easily control costs of labor. In a competitive market, they're free to go wherever they make the best money, just like the consumers of their product (either the employer or consumers of the end product) are free to go wherever they get the best prices.

Yes, Those who "NEED" Unions are weak, that is not however saying that those who are in Unions are weak. There is a difference.
Also, like I've said before, If people would just stand up for themselves and not work for the "bad" companies - they'd go out of business and a better one would take it's place. Pro-Union people here keep saying that it is the workers who make the company, no? Then don't you think they could also ruin a company, by not working there if conditions/pay is "that" bad? Why not just let the "bad" ones fail so better ones(those with better pay/etc) take their place? Why should you Unionize to force a "bad" company to change...just enough. Would it not make sense to let the bad one fail and let a better one take it's place? Why do the Unions prop up "bad" companies then - don't they just change the route of the eventual collapse? They sure don't "fix" it - a "bad" company will be a "bad" company, no?

When 97% of workers approve of a strike.....there is something wrong with workplace or in the details.

Most people do NOT want to strike.

When I worked in a union shop, the best part of belonging to the union was the security. You always knew what you could and couldn't do to still have your job at the end of the day. I can't say the same for the nonunion employees. I saw 13 white-collar employess walked to the door in a one year period for various reasons.

For some people, unions are good for wages or benefits or representation purposes. For me, it was the security.

What about the people that have been working there a long time, no doubt making above $15/hr, who started right out of HS. They have a house payment, car payments, couple of kids, etc. Although they made some choices that led to the situation, but that person needs the benefits, needs the money, and needs the job security....thus needing the union

Ya, they could go work some where else non union and make a couple bucks less, or go to night school for the next 7 years....but which, in their minds, do you think is more practicle.

Do they need the union in order to collude and increase wages and benefits, or are the unions there for some other reason?
