I have kind of a dumb question, but I have googled it, and cannot find an answer.
I want to hook up my laptop (cheap HP AMD A6-4400M processor) to my 30" monitor (2560x1600). Yes, I know that I am trying to hook a $300 computer up to a $1200 monitor.
The complication is that this has to go through a KVM. The KVM supports dual-link DVI, and has no problem with 2560x1600.
First off, I *KNOW* that the full 2560x1600 is impossible. However, I want to get as many pixels as possible, and need to know what cables to use...
Here is what I can get using various cables (straight to the monitor, no KVM yet):
Analog VGA: 2048 x 1280
Regular HDMI cable: 1920 x 1200
HDMI-to-DVI (monoprice cheap cable): 1920 x 1080
So, I KNOW that the built-in graphics adapter can handle 2048x1280 just fine -- it is just a matter of getting it out. The HDMI port can handle 1920x1200, but not with the HDMI-DVI cable.
According to the Wikipedia article on HDMI, the HDMI 1.3 standard can support 2560x1600, and DVI Dual-Link can also support that resolution. Is there such a thing as an HDMI-DVI cable or adapter that supports dual-link? Since I need to go through a DVI KVM, using analog or HDMI only is not really an option. Even getting 1920x1200 would be an improvement.
Thanks in advance
