Generally the answer is NO. Read this
article. One of the main reasons people would say that yes cable is better is due to the price/performance issue.
Usually cable companies wave set-up fees etc. and monthly rates are lower. I have had zero disconnects from DSL at work and I have had many many instances of interrupted service with my cable modem. Knowing all the facts though, cable is better for me from a price/performance standpoint. It also doesn't help the my cable modem provider caps upload speeds at 128kbps. Plus cable usually has more latentancy issues than DSL which really shows when playing online games (again the upload speed cap doesn't help).
My connections (DL/UL speeds):
DSL=1536Kbps/384Kbps ==> usually get around 100+ KBps
Cable=1024Kbps/128Kbps ==> usually get around 70KBps
My cable is more than half less $$ than the DSL connection. So it is worth it to me.
