Well... I decided to open up my case today and go to it. I didn't go CRAZY but I did spend a little bit of time with it... didn't run anything under the motherboard, and the sata drives are a b!tch, especially the power connector.

Any thoughts or ideas? I'm open to anything... It's not the best but that's why I'm asking for more ideas, it's my first time trying it so go easy

Rig is in the Sig

Thanks

In this regard, I've come across a problem of my own.

I have an older computer doing extended duty as a file server. It orignally had RAID0 on a FastTrak controller totaling 40 GB, and I wanted to add a HighPoint 464 card to "RAID5" three 160 GB hard disks.

The old computer has some four PCI slots, already choked up with the AGP, FastTrak, NIC and USB2 cards. The NIC has the lowest profile, and I began to see that I was fortunate for having the empty slot next to the NIC and between the NIC and the FastTrak. I thought I would have room for shielded "round" cables.

But the shielded "round" cables have stiff, puffy plugs on the controller end. You can see the NIC and the Highpoint card bulging apart, and nobody wants their cables touching adjacent PCI adapters.

I had to replace the "round" cables with the conventional ATA/100/133 cables -- anathema to PC modding purists.

You'd think that controller manufacturers would've foreseen this problem, in choosing the orientation of the IDE ports on the cards.

Oh, well . . .

Not bad atall cRaka. I just put some Convoluted Tubing (black-my pcp&c is sleeved all black) on all my different colored sata/fan/gpu fan/probes/usb/audio/front IO connector cables. Really cleaned it up in my case and the stuff is very cheap. Got it at Frys... made by JT&T. You still getting the P180?

I know exactly what you mean.... but for now this will work until I think of something new, ordered an XP-120 too.

Just do a search for cable management here and you should find a lot of results.

Suggestion: fold those IDE ribbion cables instead of scrunching them. Also, those red SATA cables are really distracting!

I was thinking of something to get rid of that IDE cable from my Audigy... if I got some of that tubing JB was talking about and flipped the end piece of the IDE cable sideways and pushed it through the tubing.... would that work? I've never used the tubing before but I was just thinking of some things I could do

Having worked with that PSU before, I can agree with you that it is difficult to get the cabling under control. While that sleeving looks sweet, it makes the wires very difficult to route and they're pretty short to begin with. The only thing you can really do with them is just bundle them all together and push them off to the side. Also, I'd suggest controlling those SATA cables from your hard drives. It's ok if you bend them; I bend mine back onto themselves all the time (even at 180 degrees) to no ill effect. Post some updated pics when you make more progress!
