Just a quick FYI, both my parents and a friend purchased this when buy.com had a sale awhile back.

Both of them died within 6 months.

I guess that's why these are "Condition: Refurbished" and are such a low price.

Not to TC but, I have to agree. Just calling up Comcrap and having them walk you into the setup was fun enough... Then you gotta bring in the old modem just to save a few bucks a month. Yeah, it's worth it but I would buy a 3Com or Toshiba modem before doing this since if your new 13.00 modem were to fail you would be SOL until you bought a brand new one and had to call comcrap to get a new mac... It's not fun. Trust me.

BTW, these modems were replaced originally by AT&T b/c they were causing some pretty bad connections issues. Lot's of dropped connection throughout the day. This came directly from a friend that works at Comcrap. These were probably sent back to 3Com to get fixed and now resold at dirt cheap. I actually didn't that much problem with mine till lately. Finally got the darn thing switched with a Motorola (works superbly!). But mine lasted for 3 years with no problems. Just a little tid bit.

I bought one of these before and used it for several months before buying a D-Link. The original power adapter that came with it was from Europe, it is pretty much an import product.

i've bought 3 of these, for myself, mothern in law, and brother in law, saving us $5 a month renting a modem. had no setup to do with mediacom cable, and they've been working without a problem for the last 8 months.

Picked up one of these last time those guys had them. One of the best bargains I've ever gotten, saves me $5 a month in rental fees, no setup or configuration. Phoned the MAC address in to the cable company, and I was in business. It's been working seamlessly for more than six months. Paid for itself months ago, so even if it explodes tomorrow, it still saved me money.

Glad to hear that there are so many skeptics out there, it helps keep prices low on products like these.

I called Cox to see if its supported. They have a list a mile long but no 3com. DOCSIS should work but........
Has anyone tried this unit with cox (san diego) ? I tend to like 3com equip and if you had a unit go out It would almost be a garentee that the problem is its power brick. Did anyone who had a failure try a P/S unit? Even if the leds on the unit light up replace it. I collected a hole box of stuff like this and all of them are just powersupply problems.
Let me know about cox please
Thanks, Damon
