First of all... This Tech Support Forum is great. Thank all of you for your help (from other posts).
I live in the bay area, California and have RCN Cable Modem Service. I have a question. On the main computer that is hooked up directly to the cable modem, the connection seems a bit slow. I am running Windows 98 SE if this is useful information. I have about 316 MB of Ram.
The Problem: Sometimes when I am on internet explorer just surfing the web, the internet connection slows down (pauses for about 30 seconds). Then the bottom left corner says "detecting proxy settings..." and then finally connects. Usually I can click through about 10 links and then it does this... then another 10 links and it pauses again.
ALSO, I am getting only around 30 to 100KB/Second when I download something. My friend said I should get around 300 or so.
Can you tell me if this is all normal or if there is something I can do to fix all this?
Thanks
Jason
