There are several factors that dertmine that. Cable Internet IS capable of doing 10 mbps of data-transfer both ways (although DSL users sometimes don't like to admit this) so theoreticly you could do a 10 mbps upload.

Most Cable internet service providers cap their uploads at 3 mbps - mine is capped at 2 (I think) I have done 1.3 mbps uploads before. (By the way, 1 mbps = 1000 kbps).

Some crappy providers like @Home and Comcast like to cap it at 128 Kbps or lower, which blows.

On Road Runner ( http://www.roadrunner.com ) I get anywhere from 50 kbps uploads to like I said 1.3 mbps uploads, it all depends on who your uploading to, and what the speed is on their end of the line.

Some Cable Modems are hard capped via the bios, others are control by bandwidth regulators at the Cable Company.

There in all reality there is like a 95% failure rate I would guess when trying to uncap a modem. I have tired.

Cable is capable of 10mbps both ways, but not all modems are. The Motorolla modem that @home gave me (a black cybersurfer) is capable of T1 (1.5 Mbps or a little under 200 KB a sec), but @home has limited it to 128kbps or 16 KB a second. It dependant on the provider more than the modem. Most limit it to 16KB, a few give 32KB.

Uncapping has to be done either at the cable company or with a bios patch for your particular cable modem.

Option 1.) Cable Company - Unless you have a dude working on the inside this is not an options.

Option 2.) Bios Patch - All I can tell ya it start seaching for Cable Modem Bios patched, and if your lucky you may find one that is for your cable modem PROVIDED that your cable modem is the one cappping the rate NOT the office boys.

I'm on @Home in Fort Collins, CO. After initial screaming downloads of >2Mb/s, I'm currently getting around 800kb/s. Uploads seem capped at 128kb/s. I typically get around 118kb/s uploading.

@Home here in Mississauga (A city located 15 mins from Toronto, Ontario)

They capped my uploads at 50 kilobytes per second...but I have a LanCity cable modem, which is hackable...I tried hacking it, but I didn't notice any change...I will try again

RR is by far one of the worst isp's reported by dslreports.com then @home then bla hblah

I am on optimum online (rated as theb est cable isp).

Really i dont care as long as i ping super low

fastest download i got was 515KB/sec and upluad is capped at 128KB.

Pings range from 18-60 avg

I put on a gateway and pings when up about 10ms.

No offense to trinitron but i think hes lieng his ass off.

Because i know for a fact every RR user from hawaii to new york has a upload cap of around 16KB. Possibly trinitron already had the file in his cache... Otherwise i dont beleive it.

I have Charter COmmunications. They bought out the company that used to provide cable modems. My downloads are supposedly capped at 1.5mpbs and my uploads are capped at 30k/sec (not sure what this is in mbps).

I just love when guys go spouting their mouths off with info they think they have.

Well first of Vich, I have Central Florida Road Runner. My Father works in the same building they are based out of. Their on the 4th floor of the Alltel Communications Building in Maitland Florida.
(Wanna see the buidling? http://www.alltelcommunitybank.com/images/building.jpg)

I have been in their offices, I have talked to their sysy-ops, they are NOT capped at 16 kbps. I also know from personal experience that it is not capped, becuase I have a screen of an upload to the Alltel FTP site at 1.4 Mbps.

So before you go off calling me a liar, you better have your facts straight. Oh and by the way, your ISP that you say is soo good "optimum online" isn't even listed on the address you posted.

I am on a wide open Cable connection with a small Southeastern Cable provider called knology. By wide open I mean whatever bandwidth you can claim on your node is what you get. I usually get around 850-900KB/s down and 300+KB/s up <Kilobyte not Kilobit> so i fully believe that Florida's RR service is close to that. It seems in the US that the southeast has the craving for high speed internet. Although the @home crap around here is 128kb/s cap on the upstream<128kilobit = around 13-16 Kilobyte per second> but then what else could you expect from the aol of cable.
