Cable Modem/ WinME problems

I just had cable internet installed on my computer. It will not work right. I've call tech support and they are stumped. I am running Win ME and a Linksys fast ethernet adapter. The cable modem runs fine on my old machine(windows98), but I want to run it on my new one. Any thoughts??

Is your ethernet card installed correctly? - Correct Drivers, etc.

All the cables are hooked up properly I assume. Are you set to use DHCP, or set your own IP?
Are your computers networked? With a router? NAT?

Yes everything is installed properly, no I am not networked to anything else.

Be sure your browser is set up for a lan connection and not a dial up connecton.
Tools, options, connections.
make sure tcp/ip is loaded along with your nic and 'client for ms networks'. you will check this under the network icon in control panel.

I use the same combo on WinMe and have no problems..if you still are snagged let me know by email and we can compare notes. I have both a 10bt and a 10/100 version.

I reformatted and reinstalled EVERYTHING. I am now up and running. Thanks for all of your ideas.

I was about to say reinstall the TCP/IP... seemingly the TCP/IP stack in winme sometimes doesn't work right. I have had that experience. Reinstall the TCP/IP and everything was fine.

rominl, you got that right, Ive installed WinMe three times, first time no problems, second time could not get client on internet no matter what I did, third time all is well... WinMe can get confused..perhaps because of its new features to allow home networking? Not sure why but I have seen numerous posts about it around the net. But it does work well when working.
