Cable Modems: How fast do you download at max?

I ask this because I am on a wireless router and card. The router is downstairs in the study, with the wireless PCI card in my bedroom.

At current, I have maxed my DL speed at around 300 kbps from. Now, I know that a good deal of download speed is due to the FTP or whoever/whatever you download from. But, under theoratical conditions, what should cable download speeds be?

I just want to know if my wireless cards are slowing my speed. They are both Dlink products, so they connect at 22 mbps according to Windows.

I don't use this setup for anything other than splitting cable internet access, as I couldn't figure out how to setup file transfer, which I really don't need.

The cable modem should support up to 100Mb/s which you'd never see on the current systems. Whatever you're getting is probably the max that the server can send it. Have you tried to test your speed using those websites that test transfer speeds?

300k is a good avg download speed for cable modems..

My crappy Comcast system is capped @ 1.5mb which is 180KB/s. 300KB would be sweet!

capped ay 800 kbps here, DL rates are usually optimally around 80 KB/sec.

I download around 380K sustained on a good night. Spikes of 420K, and lower average sustained of 350K.

Reasonable? I think so. Odd, though, how I have reached 300 kbps download in the past. My sister is sharing the connection, that's probably the reason for the low value.

You're probably capped by your provider at some level. It's probably 300kbps.

You modem itself probably supports around 30mbit/s

Typically, I get 200kB/s. The most I've ever gotten is around 650.

I have Optonline. Results will vary depending on the site as you can't download faster than the server will feed it to you but with a fast server, I have reached 1MB/sec. Usually though results will average between 300 - 700K/sec.

Mine seems to top at ~260k as well, but we've been having hour-long (or more) losses of connection for some retarded reason almost daily...:|

fastest i've been able to achieve from a modem outside the lab was 14Mbps down and 3.2Mbps up. thru my router i get castrated to 5Mbps/2Mbps, damn 10Mbit ethernet port on the router kills the speed

I get a burst of about 800KB/s for about 4 seconds (my internet is acutually rated at 128/2100 Mbps up/down) but then drop to about 200-300 KB/s depending on how good the server is.

I routinely get 384KB/Sec down, or about 3mbps. I only get such a speed using Download Accelerator Plus and grabbing something from a really good server. Most servers don't send me things faster than around 256KB/Sec or so (2048kbps).

it depends, most sites have a max speed per user they send to, i have had downloads range from 100KB/s to about 700KB/s. These are steady streams, however, like a guy above me said, sometimes i get bursts of 1MB/s or so, i think thats nuts, but i wish sites would stay there.

D-Link uses some type of proprietary compression to get 22Mpbs, doubled my pings while online, the ping between computer to computer was insanely high for a LAN (like 20ms to ping the computer 14ft away).

I just went out and bought a new linksys, now my pings are 1ms< for the LAN and 15ms online.
