Cable or DSL in Fairfax, VA

Hi All,

I'm moving to Fairfax, VA and I'm trying to decide which broadband service to pick in Fairfax, VA. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I live in Fairfax and I use cox, tho I heard that Verizon DSL isnt that bad either.

If i may ask, where in Fairfax are you moving to?

I live in Fairfax too and am using the Cox Premium Internet Tier. Verizon may be cheaper, esp. if you already pay Verizon for phone bills and desire the 15/2 fiberoptic service.

in east fairfax (close to falls church / vienna are) they are deploying verizon FIOS - it might be further out as well

i have cox right now, but have been having lots of problems. not sure if its on my end or not, so take that with a grain of salt

Yeah, I am having issues too with Cox. Their network is the pits.

Fairfax as in the county or Fairfax as in the city? Some parts of the county have FIOS available and that would be my first choice. I think Centreville is one of those areas of the county that has it.

Yeah, I am having issues too with Cox. Their network is the pits.

what kind of problems are you having? im getting frequent temporary disconnects...

I live in loudoun country - adelphia cable is better as of right now

Verizon is slowly rolling out FIOS in the area...lots of verizon trucks on the street recently. Have Cox now and isnt too bad...I have gotten rather fast downloads.

Where in Fairfax County are you moving....location is dependent on provider and the county is quite large

I live south of Fairfax, in Fredericksburg, VA (about halfway between DC and Richmond, VA) and have both Adelphia and Verizon DSL. Adelphia is faster (About 4.5Mb/s), but if it rains/gets too cloudy/the groundhog sees his shadow/insert excuse here I can count on it dropping out. The DSL is a bit slower (about 3Mb/s. till FIOS comes to town... seen a LOT of Verizon cable layers around town recently!) but it never goes out.

I think that area has Verizon DSL, I used to have Cavtel DSL when I used to live in Fairfax Circle, but I think your best bet is gonna be Cox or Verizon.

See if you can find a phone number of a neighbor if you've got the place picked out already. Then go to Verizon's FIOS check page and see if it's available.

If you're going VOIP, then you might want to look at Cox (assuming it's Cox there as others sugegsted), Verizon won't do naked DSL, the bast@rds...
