Cable savings

I have comcast cable, HD, DVR, and cable modem. It's gotten to be darned expensive, even with a 'grandfathered' package pricing, of $160+tax.

I've been eyeing Dish TV or one of the ATT packages (I don't look at DirecTV because of personal politics) which seem much cheaper. I heard they'll make an effort to lower the price because of that. In the past when I asked, they would not, and today they person wouldn't either, but this time I actually asked to speak to the person about how to cancel, and that person did make an offer.

They reduced my premium channels from HBO/Starz/Cinemax to two of my choice, but the price went from $160 before tax to $114 before tax, for 12 months, a nice savings.

I'm not required to stay with them 12 months, I can cancel.

I thought I'd pass along this story in case it helps others get a discount - I've probably wasted over a thousand dollars by not doing it sooner (even more by not switching).

Yeah, FIOS rocks. Have had it about 3 weeks now. Excellent service, though I am just waiting to get my first bill to see what Verizon screws up.

Man, Comcast is kicking me in the arse too. I only have Cable and Internet --- bill runs like $102 after taxes. You gotta be kiddin me, right?!!

I dont even have digital or movie channels. I think I should do the call up and cancel trick?

Sees Verizon is selectively choosing where they are installing FIOS in Delaware. That's why Comcast isn't worried around here. Hell, I can't even get regular Verison DSL where I live. I don't live in a rural area either.

comcast blows, i dont know how they get away with the crap they do. 15 bucks for dvr? No thanks, built myself a media center pc instead... but im stuck analog cable, and no dvr for OTA hd.

I just got the Comcast TriplePlay...Digital Cable, Phone, and Internet for $99. You should look into it and at least get the phone included for the same price you are paying.

Same here I have the triple play from comcast I think you can add hd channels for a couple of bucks extra. it's a good deal for a year after that find something else or cut back haha

I am taking over my roommates Comcast account today as he is moving out this week. I am wondering if I can get just the internet and get them to match the price/speed of AT&T/Yahoo DSL. Their price is $35/mo for a 6mbps connection which is easier for me as I am a poor college student, but I dont have the money to pay for a phone line and the DSL, so I am hoping I can get them to match that.

What are you complaing about?

I pay $94 for digital cable (1 tv) and HBO! They rose my bill $5/mo. in January (again, as always).

I'm in the waiting for a good alternative to appear in my area group. No FIOS in my neighborhood yet and DSL option is poor speedwise.
Currently paying around 140 a month or so for 6mb internet and Digital cable, one DVR, one regular box and HBO.

a comcast rep came over to my house to check on the dvr
he offered 1 free year of hbo and of course i had to take it

ill call comcast to see if they can lower the bill a bit

^^ i dont think they would price match. They might even tell you to go ahead and sign up for dsl. If you want lower price.

Has anyone checked the price of FIOS? Pricing seems similar to comcast, if not a little more expensive. If you notice the TV adds they also try and promote FIOS as having better quality as opposed to better pricing..my comcast bill is about $115 a month and that is with hbo, showtime and starv and internet.

For Comcast, that's a great price. Must be a short term promo deal, yes?...

yes, internet was 29.99 for one year and so was cable. In my expierence you ahve to keep trying for the speical deals, somethimes they won't offer when you call..just keep trying and eventually someone will..
