Cadillac XTS vs. Audi A8: Fight!

Buying to impress others = fail.
Buying excess power when you barely drive 45mph = fail.

If most cars didn't have little badges to remind the stupid people they have have a "V8" or "V6" they wouldn't have a clue to what they drive. A base V6 would be OK for most people, but I would imagine the majority of these cars on the lots would be V8 versions. Look for a supercharged version down the road for those who need more power than a standard V8.

DTS still sells very well so is this the new STS or DTS model - or is it a combo of the 2?

The Lucerne platform which is shared with the DTS is fine for DTS duty - reskin it a bit add some techno wizardy and keep it 300HP FWD luxo cruiser with plush suspension to satisfy the 70 and older crowd and also satisfy the Town Car cabbies.


STS needs a major refreshing - plop in the LS3 from the G8 GXP which is good for 420HP and then use the 3.6L DI V6 as the base motor. No need to for the complex Northstar DOHC V8 when the OHV LS3 will work just fine.

It is replacing BOTH the STS and DTS...

longer than the STS, shorter than the DTS.
FWD based platform (Epsilon II, aka LaCrosse, Saab 9-5)
AWD available as option
understated, but elegant.

Didn't we just have a discussion about how all engines are being downsized a couple of cylinders and then being enhanced. Seems that Cadillac is going down that road and planning ahead instead of doing what everyone else does today. That was the biggest thing that bit GM in the butt. They built what people wanted today without consideration. Hopefully this comes out as others are putting V6 with power adders in the old V8 cars and then offering I4s with power adders in what has a V6 today.
