California Burrito best Mexican food money can buy?

i have seen it in l.a./orange county at a few places but i think it is a regional thing. i didnt see any in the bay area but it seems like every hole-in-the-wall mexican joint in sd has it available. as far as quality? sombrero's makes a pretty good one. im also impartial to filiberto's in vista and mr. taco in san marcos. also santana's california burrito is good, and weigh's 1lb! so as far as accessibility goes, stick with sombrero's and santana's.

I love Mr. Taco, but I go to the new one by CSUSM not the one on mission. I also love Santanas' CA burrito. Both Mr. Taco and Santanas have really good salsas.

i have the vip card for the one off mission so i go there for the 20% off. but im cool with going to either one, and you're right the salsa is killer at mr. taco. probably some of the best mexican food salsa i've ever had.

I've had it. It's a fairly good burrito, even though i usually prefer the standard carne asada burrito.

Don't think any of the taco trucks around my way have that on their menus. Lengua tacos they do have!

I've never seen The Shield, but I would say that some parts are disgusting. I live in San Diego which overall is beautiful, but there are def some ghetto areas.

I was in Anaheim for competitions about 5-6 years ago, and in total we went to Anaheim, Long Beach, Buena Park, and LA.
I was glad to be out of LA once we left. Part of the city may be nice, but where we were, I could tell if the sun wasn't up, it would be the grungiest, most vile looking place I've ever seen. And trust me, quite a bit of Toledo and some areas of Columbus are terrible. I wouldn't say that those parts would be like a vacation compared to what I saw in LA, but it's not that much of a stretch.

That, and I don't mean this in a racist manner at all, because I've known many legal citizens from Mexico, or have ancestry from Mexico, or hail from some area considered Latin America... and they are amazing people.
But the thugs from that ancestry... jesus I don't know how to handle myself around them. I know how to keep out of trouble in most of the ghettos in Toledo and Columbus, it's always mostly a thing of respect. But the Mexican ghettos... they are the only place of a city I get seriously nervous. I've had runs ins with thugs that thankfully never had a chance to escalate, but damn.
I should know they above most cultures in various ghettos are the ones who have the biggest demands for respect or face a horde, but seriously... I don't get it.

The California burrito is terrible. Carne asada is juicy and the potatoes will soak up the juice making the innards all soggy. Sour cream overpowers the taste and throws the entire burrito off balance.

If you want a carne asada burrito, eat a carne asada burrito. Get everything else as side items.

Mexican food in Colorado is okay, nothing to get excited about, but not bad. What Colorado does have is some of the best Indian (from India) food in the country including the best Indian restaurant I've ever experienced (India's Restaurant in Denver). There are three or four more quite good Indian restaurants in Denver and Fort Collins has a good one as well.

You've never made it down south then.. some of the best Mexican restaurants in the world are down by Pueblo, Trinidad, and of course, just over the border in New Mexico

IMHO, Oaxaca is the best place to get burritos, and Merida is the best place for Mexican foods in general. Hevos rancheros in Merida is one of the best breakfast that I ever had, and the cheese (string queso fresco) is much better than any cheese that I have had in North America.
