California green-lights initiative that’s a conspiracy theorist’s dream

American "democracy" and "freedom" in action when retards start going back in time. Only a few more years before witch trials are brought back.

Activists in California can now move forward collecting signatures for an expansive ballot initiative that encompasses a world of non-evidence-based and fringe notions, according to California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.

The initiative would eliminate vaccination requirements for schools and daycares, banish genetically modified organisms, and prohibit basic water treatments with fluoride and chlorine. The initiative would ban more than 300 chemicals, including fire retardants, and it would order the removal of smart meters. These, the initiative claims, are “neither smart nor meters but intermittent samplers, not accurate, not accountable, [that] emit and receive unnecessary radiation.”

The initiative, dubbed the “California Clean Environment” initiative, will create an elected, three-person board to oversee the sweeping regulations and approve new chemicals. Violations under the initiative would be considered up to felony crimes punishable by fines and prison sentences.

As justification for extensive regulation, the initiative claims that GMOs and unspecified contaminants in the environment, food, and vaccines are causing cancers, autism, Parkinson's, and a slew of other diseases.

“We are trying to restore people’s ability to fight for themselves and decide what they should do,” initiative’s author Cheriel Jensen told Patch.com. “These companies that make the chemicals have taken our right to refuse those chemicals away.”

The initiative states that “nothing may be introduced into people, commerce, or the environment if it causes or increases the probability of one or more of the following in people, mammals, birds, bees, other beneficial insects, or amphibians.”

This is followed by a long list of conditions and diseases spanning death, cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s. The list also hits allergies, interference with sleep, loss of productivity of the soil, and a die-off of intestinal bacteria.

With the state authorization, Jensen is now clear to start collecting signatures to get the initiative on the ballot this November. She'll need to collect valid signatures from 365,880 registered voters—five percent of the total votes cast for Governor in the November 2014 general election—in order to qualify. She has until August 8 to do so.

California already has some of the strictest environmental measures in the country, and the state has previously rejected even labeling GMOs in foods. Still, the initiative may find a foothold with the anti-vaccine and vaccine-hesitant crowd. In 2016, California implemented a law that clamped down on personal belief exemptions for required vaccines in school-aged children, which riled opponents. Many have vowed to overturn the law, which this initiative would do, among many other things.

An initial assessment by California’s Legislative Analyst's Office and Department of Finance determined that, if the measure passes, it would “result in a substantial net change in state and local finances.”

I'll be concerned if this gets any significant level of support and actually stands a chance of passing (they don't even have the signatures to get it on the ballot yet). Until then, yeah, there are stupid people in the world.

Pretty much this. There is some crazy stuff that people try to get signatures for around here. It makes the news once and then dies after they only get like 10 signatures

They should all move to amazon and live with the indigenous people there, without any modern technology like metal.

This is a bunch of conservative assholes posing as liberals.
Objection! Assumes facts not in evidence.

But I'll pick it up and run with it. If it was liberals just acting like liberals would they still be assholes?

The evidence is that it can't be liberals acting as liberals because liberals don't act that way. That means that the evidence actually is in, and that only leaves one other possibility, conservatives acting as conservatives, in other words as assholes. Hope that helps.

Image? I would use the word attention. The US is filled with millions of self hating people whose only claim to a spotlight and fame, all other avenues to it blocked by a lack of self capacity, achieve it via making a spectacle of themselves via crudeness and stupidity as the their only remaining avenue.

CA hasn't green lighted it, fake title for fake news. They first have to gather enough signatures to get it on the ballot and only then will the voters of California decide to green light it or, most likely, not. You can gather signatures for anything.

But then "we" still lack a common understanding as no one defines what acting conservative or liberal means. Aside from you attesting that Greens depicted in the OP are no liberal friends of ours, and to that I'd agree. I find there are no small number of regressive tendencies among those who vote Democrat, they're only human. Just because they were convinced by some issue to vote Democrat does not mean they value enlightenment.

News stories run into this all the time, pointing out the flaws for all to see, and Conservatives like to point at it and say "see?! see?! Can't you see the devil!?" To which, I assume, we nod our heads and reply "of course, for it is just a mirror".

Since boomerang, like many, many other conservatives who post here, is not a person with whom anybody can logically reason, I decided it best simply to demonstrate the kind of absolute certainty that accompanies gut level reactive rationalization. I get very jealous and greedy about them staking sole ownership to nutcase thinking. Why do they get to have all the low level lazy thinking. I need a break.

"green-lights initiative". I think Ars is actually a pretty good source, I wouldn't classify it as fake news.

They are allowed to gather signatures by the state constitution, the role of the state is to certify that rules are being followed, not green light or block initiatives on merits. That's up to the voters, assuming they gather enough signatures to get on the ballot.

Stupid transcends politically ideological lines.
Stupid here is not low intelligence but the irrationality produced by fear. One could even argue that without a capacity for intelligence the wildly irrational part of the equation couldn't be imagined. Paranoia is the result of a panic state that manifests or is evidenced by rapidly occurring and uncontrolled associative thinking powered by the threatened surfacing of repressed traumatic feelings, present events triggering past traumatic content and the search for a way to regain the safety of the repressed state.

More of those intellectuals over in CA.
Top companies come here and pay huge salaries and taxes to hire the intellectuals. Meanwhile, Republican states have to spend billions to get shitty sweatshops like Foxconn to move there. Free markets are speaking loud and clear.
