Hate to burst your bubble, but I think pretty much every state has bridges and lakes.
Personally, when it comes to natural Beauty, I like Wisconsin (around the door county area especially.)
However, I like Illinois the best overall, because that's where I call home. Just wish it didn't get so damn hot in the summer. The cold of winter's never bothered me.

Easily accessible? Pretty much any campground on the 198/Generals Highway.

Kings Canyon you just follow 180, pretty easy and you can go to Roads End. I haven't been there in years though so I'm not as familiar with the camping on the 180...haven't camped anywhere there since I was a kid.
