I didn't see the other thread, and I remember you "having fun" in Off Topic as well.

Oh yea, I was bored decided to pretend to be a totalitarian. just having some fun.

Yeah, it was a laugh riot.

I used to think that if I went to college, I'd only want to do it on the coast. Either California or New York/New England area. The more I thought about it though the more I realized that no, I don't want to be in California. I guess I don't have much to say other than all the major cities in California seem like perfectly nice places to visit. Once in your life. But with LA being a smoggy hellhole and San Francisco being so... damn... so damn... wet... I don't think I'd like to spend more than a week at a time in either place.

You realize that you don't have to live in SF to enjoy the area right?

Edit - I see...Sac. Well sorry but you CAN have earthquakes there.

Major Fault Lines

Also, the San Andreas is close enough that you could feel earthquakes easily. Probably no damage from any quakes caused by the San Andreas though.

Lol - so says the guy who lives in the state that elected Bush

Owned

Yes, owned by someone who thinks Texas elected the Prez

I never talked about him as president - your state elected him as Governor prior, a worse move than electing Arnold

If you are living in Los Angeles, why are you complaining about the liberalism? that's like me living in the South and complaining about the bigotry, racism, and inbreeding.

Well, I think that line qualifies for the most ignorant statement, EVER!

I'd take Rockland County, NY over Santa Cruz, CA ANY DAY, as boring as people say it is. It'll always be my home >.> people here are way too laid back, stupid, careless, etc. in general.

I live in Rockland County... I've never been to Santa Cruz, but I don't particularly like it here. Not much to do.
If it's things to do, you won't run out in CA. It's getting there that will hang you up. I've been in CA for all but ~4 years since 1948, and gridlock really didn't exist back in the 1950's and even the 1960's for the most part. The idea of BTB traffic on a freeway except for rushhour sometimes was impossible, barring an accident, I suppose.

I've been musing about moving somewhere where it's a lot cheaper to live, hopefully not sacrificing the things I want. But what I probably can't imagine is what it would be like to not have all this stuff going on around me. It annoys me sometimes a lot, but I might miss it a whole lot more than I'd appreciate being away from it.

I have never been to Santa Cruz. One time in the 1970's I tried to hitchhike there just to see why I was hearing so much about it. It was so frustrating trying to get a ride that I gave up. I'm sure it's not the same place now.

Hey, like I say, I've been living in CA for around 55 years, Berkeley and L.A., and never really suffered from an earthquake. The threat of a big, devastating quake hangs over our heads but they don't strike very often. You just never know. I try to be prepared. Right now, I'd take it over anywhere from TX to Virginia due to the high hurricane threat.

Those pictures are quite beautiful.

Who's "we"?

Crab people.

I'm just curious, I have a good idea already, but... I just remembered, this is the guy (DVK916) who fancies himself a hardcore totalitarianist. His dream home is smack in the middle of North Korea, or so he claims.

Anyways I live in Sacramento, we don't have earthquakes in Sacramento.

Though we have high flood risk.
During high school I participated in an affair called California Boy's State, a sort of civic camp where we pretended to participate in state government (I ran for a high court judge, IIRC, and lost!). The participants were all high school boys, convened from all over CA in Sacramento. It was, IIRC, one week in June (maybe July?), and it was torturously hot virtually the whole time. That's my problem with Sacto. I'd lived since 4 in L.A. and never experienced such uncomfortably hot conditions.

Yes in the summer Sacramento is hotter than SoCal. But areas in the south east united states are still worst.

I'm quite happy in TN and would not wish to ever move out west.

There is no point. California's cost of living is going to send all of the businesses out of there eventually. Nissan just left (moving corporate to Nashville area) and I'm sure others will do the same at some point. I'm sure California is a nice place to visit but the cost of living (housing + socialist-level taxes) is ridiculous.
