start with race. im eager to hear that one.

dont ask me questions. just explain.
I already did, but will explain it again.

Most liberals start conversations on race from a position of systemic racism. That there are undeniable truths to any conversation on race, and that an undercurrent of white privilege prevents the conversation from moving forward.

What I am suggesting is that conversations on gender identity must similarly start from an acknowledgment of biological privilege. There are undeniable biological truths to any conversation around gender identity. No amount of hormone therapy or reassignment surgery or ID cards or bathroom access or pronouns can change those biological truths.

It was an analogy to demonstrate that for conversations to be meaingful on either topic, they have to start from a position of certain truths. Dismissing biology as part of a conversation on gender is like dismissing systemic racism as part of a conversation on race.

880k? is that all? sounds like deal.

those kids didn't need new text books or school supplies anyway...or meals for homeless (CA still still cares about them, right???) Guess being able to put an 'X' on a Driver's License is much more important...

God will certainly punish us for this transgression. Probably in the form of hurricanes or something.

Thinking only in absolutes is absolutely stupid, wouldn't you agree?

Many times, no. 2+2 is absolutely 4. XY is absolutely male, and XX is absolutely female. No delusions of "gender identification" change biological realities.

Only an idiot extends "not everything is an absolute" to "there are no absolutes."

What is the state interest in having sex/gender/fetish/curiosity notated on a DL or other ID? If it serves no legitimate purpose, take it off the ID. I suspect the physical attributes list is a hold over from a time when drivers licenses didn't have photos, bureaucratic inertia gone wild.

So if someone with an 'X' on their driver's license is arrested, are they held with male or female prisoners?

Probably just a matter of time before holding cells/prisons are built just for those with an 'X', right? Heaven forbid they are made uncomfortable by being held with others with different gender identities...

So basically no valid reply to my post then....
look at California's GDP, then come back with your faux points "whaddabout the children!!!". if thats what youre down too, you probably dont have a leg to stand on anyways

with the amount of money a state like CA spends on IT, IS, 880k is seriously not much.

My question is, what exactly is the harm of going with a third gender option? (Besides riling up those who clutch pearls whenever they see mention of non-cisgender people, that is.)

To me, it's no different than letting a transgender person go by their new name; it better reflects their identity and can help officials make some informed choices. You aren't going to make intersex, gender-fluid or androgynous people go away by insisting their driver's license says "M" or "F" on it.

Still curious if a person with 'X' on their driver's license gets arrested, do they go to the mens or womens holding cell/jail?

As dumb as that question sounds, that has a potential to cause a major shit storm....

Also curious how the auto insurance industry will handle this...since males usually pay higher insurance rate, would they be cheaper if they claimed 'X'?

Trying to figure out how health providers will deal with this is going to be another nightmare....are providers in CA going to offer this 3rd option as well?

Yeah, it's definitely a thorny issue, but I'd rather be made to answer that question (among others) than not. After all, there's a dilemma regardless of whether or not the ID recognizes their gender identity. A specific section of the prison? Maybe not, and it's hard to imagine asking someone under arrest which jail section they'd prefer, but at the same time... you don't want to throw someone into a jail section where there's a real chance of harassment or violence.

This is a huge problem, and we need to devote time, resources, and concern over it.

Time to put XX or XY (or rare XYY) designations on ID. You can't change that even if you are mentally retarded.

OH THERE WILL BE!
When they start suing the state to get separate bathrooms, jails, prisons, dorms, sports (leagues), clothing stores, and everything else.
