Having met with dozens of insurance companies, climatologists, catastrophe modelers, the state forester firewarden where I live, etc. over the past year is say the consensus is things like ember shielding vents is 100% useless in a catastrophic fire unless you've also taken several other steps to mitigate. Put another way, individual property mitigation is not a factor compared to community mitigation.

I think about 1993 when Laguna Beach suffered a catastrophic fire and one house stood out from the rest. So yes please have your so called experts say that individual property mitigation is not a factor and I will call BS.

In the drone shots I've seen from the PP fire not every single house is destroyed, even in the middle of a burned out neighborhood. I suspect some common factors in those individual residences that prevented them from catching.

Ultimately the insurers are going to be the ones to drive change here because they aren't elected or susceptible to lawsuits if they won't cover you. Your neighborhood hasn't implemented mitigations? Denied. You haven't retrofitted and cleared your property as specified in our requirements? Denied. Etc.

I'm starting to wonder if climate change if purposely denied or downplayed by the right as a method to push everyone towards "you will own nothing and be happy".
