Even 10% full you would have 11 Million Gallons of water at elevation. Compared to the 3 Million gallons of water that was available during the fire. Looking at the math, I am having a hard coming to the conclusion that it wouldn't have made a difference even not very full. Just nobody that works for the LADWP wants to come out and say it. I really don't blame them that the reservoir was offline. The reservoir needed to be fixed and this is the time of the year to do this work.

I think it impacted the system in some way.

A DWP official acknowledged that the reservoir’s absence likely contributed to some diminished pressure and dry hydrants in upper regions of the Palisades.

Would it have made a significant difference, probably not. It was just Murphy's law rearing it's head. For the people asking why they where working on the reservoir in December/January, I ask those people, what time frame would you have picked? I expect the DWP will conduct a post mortem on what happened and probably the results will make nobody happy.

This is one thing I don't understand about climate change. I would think the pacific getting warmer would result in more moist air in SoCal. I actually sat next to a climate researcher of a flight once and I asked him about it, and he told me the models showed it would result in less moisture in the summer and more in the winter, but he didn't explain the mechanism to me. I believe him, I just don't understand the reason.

A guy named Thom Hartmann explained it years ago, back prior to 2015.

It basically boiled down to this, the oceans get warmer, creating more moisture evaporation into the atmosphere. Having more moisture in the atmosphere create more extreme and unpredictable weather patterns.

This doesn't mean more rain in dry regions, it means more precipitation in normally humid regions. With the result being more harsh, and extreme weather in those regions. Hence the mountains that typically get snow accumulation and drain off to CA reservoir had record snowpacks.

Now I can relate to them trying to repair their systems.
Where I live, we had a federal study that said we needed our water system upgraded. They received grant money.

2nd mayor ago died suddenly, the replacement mayor resigned shortly after winning election, nobody can find where the money went.

Democratic Governor has nothing to do with the failure of our shit ass town. Overwhelmingly Republicans here. There is a family of thieves running the local government. Starting with the resigned School superintendent.
