9800np/3000+/1gb ram and the demo ran like molasses. Can anyone verify that the performance is the same with the retail version?

I have a similar pc (except my cpu is a Athlon XP 2500+) and the game runs at 5fps..maybe less! No matter the settings in the options the game just chugs along like a slideshow. The only thing I haven't tried is DX7 mode and I refuse to do so.. I want to play the game as it was meant to be play. Amazingly Quake 4, F.E.A.R., Serious Sam 2 and that Lost Coast level in HL2 all run pretty damn well on my pc at high settings (@ 1024x768 with no AA) but this game is unplayable for me.

Well DX7 mode would significantly boost your frame rates I went from around 20fps or less to 70-100 when this optioned is enabled...the gfx on DX7 arent that bad anyways...the only way I see a person playing this game very well with DX9 is If they got one of those AMD dual core processors at least a gig of RAM and at least a 7800GT.

Exactly. In the first version, you could be very accurate with the MP44, but it took a lot of practice. You only need about 2-3 torso hits to make a kill and on the MP44, the first shot is dead on. If you could control the recoil, then you could really cleanup. It's too easy in COD2 to do this now and it makes the game more of a fragfest which is something a slow game should not try to be. The game seems to be more oriented toward consoles now with the change of the health bar and recoil. I know that people will probably mod it back to the old balance, but the thing I hate about mods is that they always differ from server to server.

On a plus side, the maps are something else now. The new versions of the COD maps make the old ones look like a bunch of empty space.

Finished the campaign earlier today (after 6 hours straight hehe) haven't tried multiplayer yet but I'm not a big fan of COD multiplayer anyway . . .

Excellent game. Looks good, sounds great, and man is it intense. I played on hardened difficulty and man took several tries in some places . . .

My only gripe is of course, as with everyone, else the game is somewhat of a system hog. On my rig with X800XL I could only manage smooth gaming @ 1024x768 4xAA/16xAF with high/extra/extra settings, dynamic lights on normal, small number of corpses, and no smooth smoke. And still it bogged down to <30 sometimes (during intense moments) Even F.E.A.R. ran better (as I could play F.E.A.R. @ 1280x960 2xAA/16AF high quality just fine)

Great game though, I would imagine it would look absolutely great @ 1920x1200 (yes it has true widescreen)

I also have an x800 xl and am not happy with performance- i really want to play at 60fps at something higher than 1024x768. This game certainly doesn't look that demanding, so I'm left to wonder why all the other new games run better on my pc than cod2.

I was so disapointed that i thought about buying an xfx 7800 gt of on zzf.

Anyone sites do some benchmarks on this? I'm wondering if this game is very cpu dependent.

-edit-
now I tinkered with the settings, and moved the advanced settings down from "extra" to "high". I'm now running at 1024X768 with 4XAA and AF, and getting a nice framerate (goes between 45-60).

My 6800 just can't keep up running at 1280x1024 w/AA off. Most settings are on High though, so maybe I should look at that.

Still thinking of getting a 7800GT though.

Cod2 I'm playing on max settings, it gets as low as 15fps....but it runs smoother than 60 fps on F.E.A.R , I don't know why but when playing CoD2 even though the fps is so low in NEVER chops or causes me to die, it feels smooth all around.

? direct x7 is not that great looking, just look at what it does in hl2. the only reason cod2 runs at low fps is when people select too high texture settings. the highest settings are for cards with lots of ram. i have essentially a 3200+xp and a 6600gt, it ran fine at 1024x768 high textures. u may want to lower specular/normal maps though. turning it into the highest texture mode raped my comp thuogh, think u need 256+mb card to do that
