i hopped in for 2 rounds earlier. plays different than COD4 by a fair bit. was pretty fun for the short time i played.

it didn't seem to have as much polish and that good feel COD4 has. but it might just be cause i am not used to it like i am COD4.

my main complaint is the spawning. i swear i spawned in an enemie's face like 3 times in a row. it gets bad when someone snuck around my team and killed me, just for me to respawn right beside him.

Thanks to Gregor I got a key last night, my thoughts:

I gotta say really dissappointed. I can't even begin to count the hours I spent on CoD 4, yet I was tired of W@W in 3 games. The graphics are iffy, the animations are REALLY glitchy, the action isn't even nearly as fast paced or fun...it just feels like Teyarch (or whatever the studio's name is) decided that since IW made a hit with CoD 4 and they were stealing the CoD 4 engine it wouldn't take any effort to make a great game.

Vehicles are cook for a minute, then they're annoying, and don't even get me started on the dogs...

Definately not on my buy list as it stands now...

Judging from the comments here, I expect a lot of people who buy COD:WaW to get burned because they made the purchase based on the quality of COD4.

I got my key today. I played through each of the maps once and I then turned it off. I won't get really in depth, but will share a bit. I agree with gocorps about the maps/textures and what not. It does not look nearly as good as COD4 IMO. It looks very, very bland in the three maps in the beta. I found it difficult to differentiate which team someone was on except for the tag above their head. This could be argued as a plus, but it does not work with the gameplay being what it is. If this were a tactical slow type of shooter that would work fine, but this is a fast paced go kill folks type of game. The dogs are ridiculous. I only managed to kill one on the castle map, but they got me four or five times. They are fast as hell and seem like they just bounce all over the place.

The weapons seem a bit off. I get the above comments about recoil and modernization, but it felt like I couldn't hit anybody that wasn't right up on me. The scopes and sights feel slow. That involves actually pulling them up and aiming with them. I tried using the iron sights on some single shot rifles, but as soon as I would pull them up the guy would be way out of my screen and you can't move them nearly fast enough to keep on somebody.

Anyways thats what I have for now may post more later.

well, when i used the SVT or w/e that rifle was called, the sights were ok. but when i used the heavy MG kit, the gun that came with it sucked. don't remember its name, but when you pulled up the sights, it blocked the whole right side of the screen, and you moved slower than a molasses-covered turtle in the middle of winter.

and yeah, anything other than rifles cannot hit effectively past like 15-20 feet. i sprayed at a few people with the heavy kit, using the sights, and didn't hit them. that was with them standing still and me aiming at their head. might have been 50 feet away. i understand how it was unbalanced in COD4 where you could ACOG any gun and snipe with it, but this is a bit ridiculous.

it has potential though, don't get me wrong. but i hope for their sake that this is some old code or that they are listening.

How does that make things unbalanced? If anything it should even the playing field as any gun can have the same range. Now it's all up to you to make the most of it instead of relying on the stats of your gun.

well, in normal games it didn't do much. but in HC games, getting pegged by a scorpion across the map in the leg with 3 bullets was a bit stupid. some guns don't have the range of others. just because you can put a scope on it and see that far doesn't mean you should be able to kill someone that far away as easily as if they were within 10ft.

putting a scope on something doesn't make it a snipe rifle.

It's a game man, not a friggin military training simulator. If you're on the move then it's pretty difficult to put a bead on somebody with a controller, so it still doesn't seem like a huge deal. The scopes don't turn noobs into pros, they still have to have enough skill to hit a moving target, which with a scope that zoomed in and fidgety is pretty difficult.

I get what he is saying though, it is a hell of a lot easier 'sniping' someone with a weapon that is fully automatic like a scorpion or uzi rather than a full fledged sniper rifle.

I agree with bdubya, and I think the stats of a gun should matter; otherwise just give every player the same gun and avoid the illusion that there's any real choice to be made. That said, I think the guns in COD4 are varied quite well, but the fact that you can snipe across the map with an SMG is a bit ridiculous. I play with MP5's and P90's almost exclusively, and 3 quick single-shot bursts will take anyone down from any distance. I know it's not a military simulation, but in my opinion, that dilutes the value of the true sniper rifles and assault rifles. SMGs simply don't have that kind of range.

I played two more games before I turned off the Xbox last night, the dogs got less annoying when I found you can knife them. I killed 9 or 10 of them in one go. Still, if you get them coming at you from more than one direction you're doomed.

I went 18-4 on my last game (the map with the tanks), still not very impressed. I completely agree with the "you can't tell who's an ally or enemy" comment, other than the names above someone's head it's pretty much impossible...

The new way to get a code is to go Here and enter a random number. It takes between 15-30 hours, but I just got mine.

terrible game. Spawns can't be hard to program yet people are spawning right next me and vice versa. Also I know it's WW2 era but did they have to make the audio like mono. I've had better audio in NES games. Maps are kind of cool buy seem very dark compared to COD4. COD2/COD4 were just amazing top of the line games. COD3/COD5 just seems like garbage. Maybe we are spoiled by activision and it's too hard an act to follow.

This isn't CoD 5.

And Activision is only the publisher, it's Infinity Ward (who made CoD 2/4) vs. Treyarch (CoD 2: Big Red 1, CoD 3, World at War).

My main complaint with COD4 is the accuracy of guns. Everything is too accurate. Like the P90, which can snipe across maps. Guns don't seem to have ANY recoil. Aiming down the sight makes every bullet hit where you aim no matter what. Machines guns have sniper rifle accuracy at full auto 200 feet away. It just felt way to dumbed down

They updated the beat so instead of only being able to get to level 11 you can now get to 24 and there are also hardcore game types now available. Hopefully there will be a few new maps by the end of the week maybe.
