It's working as intended. This was a feature they stuck on the PS3 to be more "real", so when that happens you have to shake the sixaxis to "whipe your face off"

They then stuck it on the 360 if you have a kinect connected. It tracks the shadows on your face or something so you literally have to whipe your face off for the camera to see it, then the screen gets clean.

YES I'M KIDDING

Really? I'm gonna have to test this out on my kinnect 360.

Not sure if this has been asked before, but does anyone else experience blood splatter on your face not fading away over time sometimes?

For example, I may fall off a cliff and be partially hurt with some blood/red on my screen. I recover healthwise but the blood/red stays on my face/screen and does not fade away over time.

Most of the time when I play, the blood fades normally. But on a few occasions, the above happens.

Glitch? Bug? Working as intended?

Are you playing hardcore? You don't recover health in HC and the blood stays.

In other news, I dropped my copy off at the post office today. I'm free!!!

Yeah I play HC.

Oh is that so? I never knew that...is that a feature newly implemented in Black Ops? Don't recall that feature in MW2.

I remember recovering though in Hardcore modes, like if I get hit w/ a bullet and find cover...I'm pretty sure my screen goes back to no blood and I'm at "full" health.

I am finding out the Ak74u is nerfed a lot harder than I thought. I might switch to the AK47 once I hit another level.

Ok I think I figured it out. There is a difference between red flashing (being damaged) and blood splatter.

Sometimes you get damaged and your screen flashes red and it fades away as you recover in both reg and HC.

Blood splatter is a different effect and you are correct, in HC, it stays there whereas in regular game modes, the blood fades away.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ak47 is a beast. If you need the mobility, just put lightweight on. I roll with lightweight on my famas class. Famas feels more like an smg to me because of the high fire rate, and I feel the need to be more mobile with it.

I've noticed the nerf as well on the 74u. Can't pinpoint what it is, but it definitely isn't as deadly as it used to be. Rolling with the spectre for my runner class now. Only thing about spectre is the iron sights kinda suck and you have to wait till 41 to unlock.

the top guns are no surprise, but the top perks are kinda. I thought ghost would be in the top 3, and I never thought marathon or lightweight were that popular.

Those are my 3 primary perks actually - and now I feel like I should change them. I hate rolling what is popular, which is a big reason why I use the Enfield during my current prestige. I'd be curious to see the top attachments - I'd say Dual Mags, RDS and Silencer.

New infograph from Black Ops (useless but interesting):

http://www.codblackopsblog.com/call-of-duty-black-ops-statistics-update-infograph/

I've got a busy day, but just added First Strike to my download queue and am firing up the Xbox!

Interesting... The top three are pretty much my preferred build for Domination. Famas, Lightweight, Hardened, Marathon. Maybe I'll give Slight of Hand a try.

The top three are all speed perks, which makes sense for any of the objective based modes. I use Ninja, Ghost, and Warlord (red dot/silencer) for DM/TDM modes where it pays to be more sneaky.

I put a little time into the new maps, starting with Combat Training on each map and then playing Domination for a little while. Here we go:

Berlin Wall (played Domination & Combat Training): Will be a very cool objective map. The B-Dom flag is in the safe path going through No Man's Land. IMO, the team with better tactics (and a couple runners to get to B first) will do best at holding B flag. The safe passage is ripe for gas, stuns, and well timed nades. Link

It is a pretty large map with a lot of enclosed areas and some elevated rooms/catwalks too. I fear on TDM and FFA there will be a lot of camping. There is some opportunity for sniping on this map, but not much.

I haven't tried Marathon/LW to get through No Man's Land. I played around in it just a bit in Combat Training and the sentry guns aren't surgical, you've got some leeway to avoid being killed for sure.

I would liken this map to Overgrown from MW1/MW2, though a bit smaller.

Stadium (played Domination & Combat Training): This map seems like it would be large, but is actually rather small. As 3arc said, this will be a good run & gun map. You'll either need to move fast and loud, or slow and quiet. There are some prime camping spots around the flags. Bombing game types will be really difficult on this map without a coordinated team to cover a bomb planter. It's fun, but not impressive.

Link

Kowloon (Played Combat Training only): This is going to be either really fun or really frustrating for people. There is a huge amount of elevation change and lots of small, winding routes through each level. The only long lines of sight are really from higher elevation to lower elevation. I think a good sniper with a silencer and motion sensor to watch his back has a good shot on this map.

There WILL be camping on this map in TDM. I have a feeling that explosives will play an even larger role in this map for Domination. CTF should be a lot of fun though, with the many different routes and elevation changes. Bombing game modes will be fun, but the team with the proper strategy will dominate. I'm thinking properly placed claymores and tactical insertion will make for a strong showing when planting & defending a bomb.

I tried the zip line once. Unless you have a teammate clear the landing zone with napalm/B52, you will probably die. A ghost might be able to slip down it and surprise the enemy team, if they're already distracted. Link

Discovery (Played Combat Training only): I think this map is really cool. It is pretty spread out, with every major artery becoming a potential choke point if properly monitored. There are several small, medium, and large buildings for players to setup in. The paths and buildings also created some peripheral corners that could turn into a good spot for campers or sentry guns.

There is a central building that I expect will overlook the B flag, which should be very important to control in order to keep the B flag. I think this map will be KICK ASS in Ground War. With lots of players to control the various avenues connecting each side of the map, you could have a fun game of tug-of-war.

One of the spawn sides sits in front of a small building that a sniper could easily camp from. It has a pretty open view of the center of the map and the main building in the middle. It would be pretty easy for them to snipe from this room and have ample warning to defend themselves if someone approaches. Since this building is on the edge of the map, there's no back side to watch. I don't know if you would have visual of the B flag or a bomb site though.

Link

Map rotation: I played for ~45 minutes in Domination mode. Everyone voted random if an old map was up next in the rotation. We ended up getting new maps a little less than half the time I'd say; maybe 1/3 to be conservative? 3arc did say they increased the frequency at which you should get one of the new maps in the rotation.

Unfortunately the team I played against for most of the maps was pretty shitty. I'm interested to see how they go with some good players!

how is lightweight used more than ghost? I refuse to believe that. Lightweight is so goddamn useless in this game.

I guess you don't play objective games. It is essential to getting to B flag in Dom first. And it is also very useful in CTF.

I'm mostly playing HQ these days... still using Ghost but I've swapped in Marathon to get me around quickly.

Wish there was a separate playlist for these maps.

Lightweight is as useless as Ghost. You have to know how to use it - Lightweight Pro is probably what's used the most due to the no fall damage, which was the primary reason why I ran Commando Pro in MW2. Basically, you can chase me up a building and I'll dive roll out a window and come up behind you with out you noticing or chasing me. If you don't chase me I throw a grenade up and then come up so odds are you won't be ready. I rarely even look at the map unless I'm looking where they're spawning or I'm running ghost myself as I tend to move slower.

I find ghost to be pretty useful and I have been running that pretty much permanently. people get a bit of confidence when they have a spy plane up, that's when I show up and ambush them

I think I've only died from jumping out windows about 2 or 3 times, and I never find myself wanting to jump but being afraid of getting hurt/dying.

I've been playing a lot of spec ops at a friend's house lately, and now that I've gone back to Black Ops I seem to be doing much better than usual. It's probably just because when I play Black Ops I usually take a days off from playing it, and get rusty again.

I was playing with the AUG today and was having a lot of success with it. I was pretty consistently the top player on my team, and was earning a lot of killstreaks, kinda wishing I had picked some higher ones instead of spy plane, care package, and sentry gun. I could probably get rid of sentry gun, because I really don't care for it, and the only reason I'm using it was because I was trying to get ghost pro, which I got today. The 2x XP isn't still on eh? Because I'm finding myself getting 10-20k, sometimes 20k+ XP a match which is pretty high for me. Maybe it's just because I was using different guns and stuff, and trying Semtex, so I'm completing lots of challenges.

I'm really liking the Semtex grenades on domination/demolition. It's taking a little while to get used to how they throw, but I seem to be getting way more kills with them than I was with regular grenades.

I also played for hours and never once came across one of the new maps, which is good I guess because I haven't bought them.

FYI, Treyarch posted in their forums about the map rotation:

Hi,

I am getting some good questions on the topic of how the playlists work with First Strike. It is frankly too long to explain well in 140 characters on Twitter.

If you own First Strike you will be joined in a Lobby with others who own First-Strike (or start one). The DLC maps are set at priority slightly above the non First Strike maps. This means they will come up in rotation more frequently. Use your ability to map vote for, or against, any map. If you have First Strike, you will see a secondary tab in your Choose Map screen during Private Matches, Combat Training, System Link and related areas of the game where you can explicitly pick which map to play.

If you don't own First Strike, you will be joined in a Lobby with others who don't own First Strike (or start one). In this regard, it's similar to Modern Warfare 2.

We try not to kick you out of a lobby if you don't have First Strike, but some exceptions are unavoidable. For example, If you join on a Friend who is playing in a non First Strike map, but who owns First Strike, when the game ends and you return to the lobby you will be kicked if the lobby votes for a First Strike map.

If you are playing in a Party with folks who don't have DLC, we will tell you. You can then play as though you don't have it. Alternatively, you remove players from your party who don't have it as you've been able to do in the past.

We have the option of a First Strike only playlist, which you won't be able to join if you don't have First Strike. We have not yet exercised this option, but are considering adding it on Friday at the start of Double XP weekend based on feedback from the community over the next 48 or 72 hours or so. I am preparing as though we will do a First Strike moshpit on Friday when Double XP starts. It's currently getting translated into the many languages the game supports. It's easy to remove (or keep) depending on feedback.

First Strike comes out "around" 2:00am PST on Feb 1.

I say "around" because it takes time to get it out to all the content/cache servers. I can't give you a specific time because it really depends on Microsoft and how fast they cache and populate the download servers. It's not coming any earlier, or later, for any other time zones. Google "time zone conversion" and convert the above to your local time zone.

Sounds like we'll be getting a First Strike maps only option!

Nice to see that option, cause after 3 hours of play, I played 2 rounds of berlin wall and 1 round of stadium.

The best part was, when the new maps were up for vote to replay, people were voting "random." I LOVE RETARDS.

I think I've only fallen to my death once off that big cliff in jungle. This game just doesn't have the verticality that MW2 had so the no fall damage really isn't a big deal.

I dislike the new maps, at least the ones I've played. I haven't played Kowoon yet though. I ended up playing my first hour without winning a single game, and every game was on a new map. When I finally got an old map, I did considerably better.

Also, the AK47 is not a substitute for the AK74u; I have already gone back to it. It is hit and miss now though. I think what they really did was turn down the auto aim on it considerably. I find it harder to hit people the farther away they are now.
