Truthfully, BO doesnt have outrageous imbalances. But they played it so safe, its the most boring CoD in recent history. Most weapons are clones of each other. Most maps are boring without any strong underlying theme and structure. The leveling isnt nearly as fun as it used to be. Everything they fixed by making it more boring instead of a new idea thats something exciting. Any new and refreshing ideas they did have (wager match and theater mode) are shoved off to the side in case they taint the experience IW crafted. Honestly, CoD is IWs baby, and treyarch are still the B-team. They dont seem to fundamentally understand how their own game works, and are afraid to mess with the magic. Id rather play a fixed MW2 than BO, but it'll never happen.
I don't think it's boring at all. The core gameplay has remained the same throughout the past 3 games; BO just eliminates most of the bullshit and nonsense that IW introduced with MW2.
I like the way the weapons are set up, it's nice having a bunch of choices instead of being locked into only 2 or 3 guns that I can stand like in the last 2 games.
I'm fine with the leveling as well, this is the most I've prestiged in COD yet.

Same here, was at 6 or 7th prestige I think and had to call it quits for awhile. Haven't been on in two weeks and i'm starting to get the itch again.
Man I don't know wtf was going on last night be it was like hacking was going on or something.
I play with a group of about 4 or 5 of us on average and while we're not top dogs every game we usually have a fair amount of wins and losses. But last night something was just wrong and it was for all of us.
We'd jump into Domination and get just murdered. Things like dumping a clip into a person and they don't drop and we'd take one or two hits and be dropped.
We'd turn a corner and the bullet would be in the air and into our head the moment we rounded the turn.
We jumped over to capture the Flag, same shit.
TDM, same thing.
Headquarters, same damn thing.
Only ONCE did we even win a round on Ground War.
There was some strange stuff going on yesterday IMO also. It was almost like the enemy team knew our positions even when I was using Ghost. The killcam would show somebody just jerk their controller to the other side of the screen as if they saw me on radar. They would do this right when I popped around a corner.
It might be paranoia, but last night at times, it seemed like people were always one step ahead because they knew where I was at all times (i use ghost and silenced weaps).
Maybe its just getting stale. Ive been playing CoD MP since the first. Cod 4 was a revolution. Its been very minor changes since then.
Its also the most Ive prestiged....and thats the problem. By pulling everything but weapons out of the leveling, and adding so many challenges, theyve made it a super short run to 50 and prestige. And then despite the fact that youve done it already and dont need your hand held, they lock out stuff like reticles and camo until the same level. You cant even view your stats till 13. Its like they didnt even think about it.
Id prefer that they rethink their whole prestige system. Get rid of it and any level cap entirely. Find another way to want to keep people leveling up and playing. Or alternatively, make each prestige different. Theyre supposedly balanced, so unlock the weapons in a different order for instance.
Since CoD4, they've introduced a single new game mode - CTF, and its hardly the most imaginative mode. There's the wager matches over in the ghetto that no one cares about and plays, because you can get the same if not more CP by just playing the game, while playing with your friends, gaining levels and not putting your own CP on the line. Again, they didnt seem to think this through.
I mean really, if the best thing you can say about a game is "they didnt really fuck things up this time", theyre not trying hard enough.
Were you using whatever silences your footsteps? If not, then there ya go. Lots of people have surround setups and they would definitely hear which direction you're coming from.
People who cry "hack" when they do poorly are a pet peeve of mine. God forbid somebody is better at the game then you... they must be fucking cheating.
They've introduced one new game mode? Unless I'm missing something, BO offers 4 new game modes to the series in wager matches alone. I know there's 4 wager modes, but I only remember Sticks and Stones, One in the Chamber, and Gun Game. Those are all great fun IMO and are a pretty large advance considering the other games. If you're worrying about CP and not FUN then I guess these modes aren't for you, but then that's hardly the game's fault that you value CP over entertainment.
I wouldn't expect much more than these "incremental changes" anyway. You don't fix what isn't broken, remember? If it's working, then all you can do is NOT make it worse. They added more perks in MW2 and allowed choosing killstreaks. That was pretty big. BO fixes a lot of balance issues MW2 had, and added what I personally feel are great wager match modes. I'd like to see maybe TEAM gun game or something, but regardless... I don't understand why you're expecting things to change so much when so many people love the way it is. If you want something different, then go PLAY something different. That's why there's so many different FPS games. Each one offers a different style of play for a different type of gamer.

I play call of duty because despite it's flaws, it's still the best and I have a good time playing it. That doesnt mean I cant see a zillion ways it can be better. Wager mode was a great idea that was poorly executed. The main problem is that it requires you to go solo, when 90% of the time I play with friends. It should have had team support from the start. I want to play with friends against others, not against my friends. The whole wagering thing hardly makes sense when you get way more points than you need just playing standard, and the points don't really buy you much in the end anyway. I'd much rather have seen those modes folded into the main playlists without the silly wagering. This is why I say wager mode is in the ghetto. It's over in the corner and no one wants to pay any attention to it.

I noticed this, too. I'm an HQ god and a damn-near god at CTF. Yesterday was FUCKED. I couldn't put my finger on it but something was definitely out of whack. Today is life as usual again.
Im just the opposite. I had been playing BO weekly since it came out,.. but in the past week went back to Battlefield BC:2 Im liking it so much better and that game feels so much more even and fair to me. Don't get me wrong, I love black ops,.. but damn BF BC2 is really fun and good when you got a handful of friends to play with.
